  1. Sorry for the multiple postings this week but this has me baffled! You probably saw my earlier posting...but I have some new developments I wanted to share because I haven't a clue about this one. Recap: 88 dl wagon - ea82 5 speed: After driving on the highway for awhile and then slowing in speed, when I step on the gas the front left wheel feels like it is being stopped causing it to pull violently to the left. It shakes and shimmies as if it has a brick stuck in the wheel. (or snow) When I step on the clutch...it is gone. I shift to 4th and same thing. Back to 5th..same thing. It seems it only does it under power but only to that one wheel. If it were the tranny it would be both wheels right? It shifts no problem. After a mile or so...it just goes away. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT all about!!! I will be forever indebted to whomever can figure this one out. Possibly a prize involved! Also, took it to my local shop today...he drove it for 1/2 hour...no problems! Figures. Let me know. -Chris PS - Here is the original post if it helps: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32552
  2. It is spfi, square compressor and the alt is outboard. (Assuming that means stand alone not built into the engine.) It looks like every other alt i have ever seen if that helps.
  3. How big is the idler pulley supposed to be? If it is any bigger then the bolt holding it on I guess mine is gone. I was tightening the belt and I could not get it tight enough and then I started to wonder if somehow it had been chaged or something. Any thoughts?
  4. They were done 20,000 miles ago. If they break is the engine dead? I kinda recall something about it being non-interferance. Is this true/relevant?
  5. Probably too far. Looking for a local place. Trying to find out how often the timing belts need to be replaced on an ea82. Can't find that info anywhere here.
  6. Anyone no of or now how to find a good Subaru repair shop in Westchester County NY? NOT A DEALER. I am looking for someone who specializes in Soobs. Any thoughts would be great! Thanks.
  7. Also, the power steering pump seems to be making noise now. Do you think this is related?
  8. mmmmm.....testing. Let me know because I know mine don't stay on!
  9. Not to mention when you release the brake to engage the HH, the break lights turn off and the guy behind you thinks you are moving so her plows into the back of your car!
  10. If I drive at 55 or 65 it never does it. It does not do it at 75 either. It will only do it after driving over 75 for awhile and then returning to a normal 55 or 65 it still does not do it for about a minute of driving at the reduced speed. Once it starts if you continue driving at the same speed it just goes away after about 20 to 30 seconds. I will examine and rotate the wheels it just feels like something else is going on. I appriciate the quick reply.
  11. It only does it after driving fast. Not constantly. It starts, I slow down it keeps doing it for like 30 seconds and then it just stops. If it were the tires it should do it all the time, no?
  12. It doesn't feel like that though. It happens under power after slowing from higher speed. I have had warped rotors before and they tend to shimmy only when braking. This is more a shaking of the steering wheel thing. VERY weird!
  13. 88 DL wagon - Strange problem happened a couple of times. Thought it was the power steering fluid being low but it was not. Seems like it only happens after driving for a while above 75mph. When you slow down there is this shuttering that feels like the front left wheel is being restrained or that the power steering is kicking in and out. Not sure really how to describe it but hopefully this means something to someone. You can feel the steering wheel shuttering when you try to change lanes thinking the wheel is about to fall off!!! PLEASE let me know what you think. -Chris
