  1. Neelie. Going thru the same hassle myself. Have the Hitachi carb apart and blown away by the complexity and lack of a rebuild kit. I was told before to get a weber and get rid of the Hitachi. Does anyone have a good source for a weber that would fit, an Hitachi rebuilt or a rebuild kit for the carb that is on there? Been on the phone all morning looking. Has someone already danced this dance and found a good solution as these cars get older? Gotten help and good advice from this Forum . . . thank you!
  2. Got the hill holder issues resolved and I would like to rebuild the carb. Seems to have 2 different carbs that came with it. Is there a straight forward way to determine which carb it is? This is that weird year when many parts where different from the book. Finally, checked with my local parts house and they did not have rebuild kits for any of the carbs listed with that year/model. Is there a good source for older rebuild kits or a direction where to start looking?
  3. Thanks for the follow up. Disconnected the cable and it seems to have fixed the problem. Will certainly keep an eye on the reservoir for a while. While monitor ebay, thanks.
  4. Thanks again, I now know where the two lines thru the firewall go and will not deal with them. Got an old Haines (the new Chilton is next to useless) book from the guy who sold me the car and it is very helpful. I talked to a service manager at the local dealer who validated my idea to first disconnect the cable from the clutch that goes to the unit so it does not operate the valve when the clutch is pressed and check how much fluid I am still leaking, if a little, I can live with it (checking the reservoir periodically). If it continues to be a problem, I will put a T in place of the unit and by pass it all together which should solve the problem . . . Thanx! Gotten more of a handle on the Vacuum lines and will probably rebuild the Carb as I am having additional problems ( hard start, bad idle, low mileage etc.). Trick will be to get the number off the carb to make sure the kit I order is correct. You observation on the weird auto year (87) seems to be true and gives me a heads up on what I need to do to get the correct parts. Do you have a good cheap source for these older models? At any rate, it is starting to make sense with your input being important . . . thanks again Owe you a hot bath in the local springs if you ever get down here to southern NM
  5. Great, thanks for the feedback. From what I can see, the line from the master goes out and through the firewall, then comes out again and goes to the hill holder unit - with this info I will do some more investigating. Thanx! Good point on the 87 being different - found that the distributer is from an 80 Brat! Let me brake (no pun intended) out my camera and see what kinds of pics I can get. Stay warm and dry up there in the NW . . . we had one day of high wind, a little rain and the sun is back out.
  6. Got a good deal on a nice 87 GL Wagon 4WD 1.8L engine and am trying to get it solid again. Brakes - it seems to have a leak from the unit located under the master cylinder that is the hill locking device. Can I just remove it from the system and plug the line that goes to it from the Master cylinder? There are a number of vacum lines that plug into the air cleaner that may not be hooked up correctly. Looking for a good diagram that shows where each goes ( what it does). The AC has been removed. Also looking for a good source of parts, new or used. Thanx!
