  1. Welcome and I agree with you. I bought a 91 Legacy LS wagon 2 weeks ago with 171,000 km and no rust (BC car) for $3000 and I think it's great. Mint shape except for that little flashing light on the dash. What it is is the computer telling you there is a fault with the air suspension system. When it on, does you car sink down onto the bump stops? With the motor off can you hear hissing at any of the wheel wells? From what I've been told there are several things that can cause it but I'm only familar with one. In my case it's a small tear in the driver side front strut airbag. Because it can't build enough pressure to lift the car to full height, the ride height sensors trigger an error code after about 15 minutes of running and turn the light on and the compressor off. My car will then settle down on the bump stops unless I stop and restart the motor (resets the computer I guess) I was quoted $ 569.00 from the dealer for a new one and I haven't had any luck yet finding a used one. You might have better luck as Toronto should have a bigger selection of wrecking yards then Vancouver. Hopefully it will be something less expensive in your case. Paul
  2. Nothing is ever as cheap as I first figure. I spent the weekend traveling around and pricing parts. It looks like it's going to cost around $2000 CDN to swap in a complete spring/ strut suspension. This is what I found for each part... (prices are for one, CDN money) Front strut - $150 average rear strut - $250 average (Subaru was the cheapest at $224) strut mount - $114 (OEM) spring - $70 (OEM) assorted - $60 (boots, seals etc) Are there any Canadians out there who have order parts over the internet? How much were the duties? Were there any other charges?
  3. I have a 91 Legacy LS wagon with a leaky air suspension. I was just going to replace the front struts (only one leaks but both have cracks in the bags) but the dealer quoted me $569.00 CDN per strut which put that idea on hold. My next thought was to follow the lead of people on the forum and replace the whole suspension with coils and KYB G-2 struts. However by the time you convert to Canadian dollars and add in shipping and duty etc it doesn't look like it's going to come out much cheaper. So my question to anyone who has had both is which rides and handles better? Before I commit to spending a big chunk of cash that I can't really afford I want to make sure I'd making the right choice. Thanks Paul
  4. I bought a 91 Legacy LS last week with air suspension. It had a slow leak in the left front strut. I didn't think it was a big deal and since it was a great price and in mint shape (loaded, low miles, no rust) I bought it without checking the price of struts. I was quoted $569.00 CDN EACH! Ouch! Since both of the front struts are in rough shape and the rears are old as well I am now researching options for replacing the suspension with a conventional spring strut suspension. I'm not upset though since it was the right price so I can pay to fix it. I still really like the car, I just have to wait a few minutes in the morning for the front to air up before I can drive it. Paul (Yeah, my first post!)
