  1. Someone I know also suggested the clutch plates might be sticking and suggested adding a LSD additive to the transmision. Has anyone tried that? I know the cheap fix rarely works but I'm out of work now and really trying not to spend any money until I find a new job.
  2. I have a 91 Legacy LS wagon AWD AT. Over the past year it's had less and less power going to the rear wheels. (more torque steer, more wheel spin in the rain). Last winter in the snow I could not tell any difference with the fuse in or out. I guessed the clutch pack was gone but as I was saving for a new car, I decided to just put up with the 2wd rather then invest the money in repairing it. The strange thing is now I'm starting to get random periods of torque bind. Putting the fuse does not make it go away but somethimes restarting the car does (I get 16 flashes of the power light when I do that). Sometimes it just goes away on it's own (hasn't done it in a couple weeks now). How can I have torque bind if I have no power going to the rear wheels and why does it only do it sometimes? any ideas? Thanks.
  3. Put a fuse in the FWD holder under then hood on the passenger size near the firewall. It will disable the four wheel drive. That way you'll know if it the AWD or the trans.
  4. "Remove the air box, battery, and washer resivoir???? what a PITA!!" Interesting, I had no trouble on my 2.2. I didn't think the 2.5 would be that much wider. If you going to use platiums and leave them in a long time. Please, please, please... use anti- seize. I've had several used cars over where previous owners left plugs in too long without anti-seize. Pet peeve.... drives me nuts.
  5. Can wheel bearings cause that? I get a slight vibration as well when I first touch the brakes but it goes away as I put more pressure on it.
  6. I never found a book but I'm sure there is something, somewhere you can order. This all I have on it... http://www.endwrench.com/pdf/feb2004pdf/4EAT.pdf and http://www.endwrench.com/pdf/feb2004pdf/4EATPhase2.pdf
  7. "Small trailers, pulled by small cars, really don't mix. I don't recommend it. I'd really advise going another way than in a hardshell trailer. " While I agree with you for the most part, towing a trailer with a small car is normal in other parts of the world.... Check out... http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/ then click on -watch videos -mucking about -TG goes caravanning I have a 1972 Sprite Musketeer (about 15 feet long and 1200 lbs) empty. It's a small Britsh travel trailer and when I bought it, a British friend of mine told me these are normally towed by " big cars" like my Legacy. I haven't tried it because I don't have a hitch on the Legacy, I also have a Grand Cherokee 4.0 and because I live in British Columbia where every road out of town leads to climbing a high mountain pass. If I were going to tow with the Legacy, I would stick with a pop up like the coleman. On windy days, even the Grand Cherokee stuggles with our trailer. Head winds make it hard to maintain speed and cross winds jerk the truck around. Good luck and have fun!
  8. When I first saw the new Imprezza, I didn't like it. I had an image in my mind of what I wanted the new car to be and that wasn't it. However, a year later and now I like it more then the old one. Judging by how many of the new style I see on the road, so do a lot of other people (at least with the 5 door version). I was looking at one parked next to a Mazda3 the other day and the Subaru looks much more expensive. Hard to say why, just made me think of a premium small car as opposed to an economy car.
  9. Actually he was a scientist. To be a scientist you have to objective and David has long since ceased to be objective. Like most enviromentists, he starts with a conclusion and looks for facts to support it. He only uses science to support his cause. Shame really, he used to be a respected figure.
  10. The difference is Gore doesn't pretend to a scientist the way Suzuki does.
  11. Why is it a benefit to burn food instead of gasoline? It's not even cleaner as it creates more pollution in it's production then gasoline. E85 is a joke. Here in Canada, the government is handing out big rebates for people who buy flexFuel vehicles and you can't even buy E85 here. Politically correct enviro nonsense at it's finest.
  12. How long should we give them to correct the prices? 3 years?, 4, 5, 6? Subaru still things it's 2000 when our doller was around 60 cents. For the past couple years it's been around 85 to 95 cents but Subaru (and others) continue to rip off Canadians. Everyone was quick to raise prices as our dollar dropped but as it climbed they seemed to forget to make the same correction. Right now a WRX wagon is $33,895 in Canada but only $24,850 in the States. Why should Subaru make an extra $9000 profit off me?
  13. Check out these little Subarus at a lot near me. (Vancouver) A little pricey but if you want a different (and very small) minivan.... http://www.buysell.com/root/detail/BC/1991_Import_Mini_Vans/3132/65169536/1991_SUBARU_SAMBAR_32000kms_AWD_Gas.aspx (not sure how to post a pic right now .... but I'll try.... http://www.buysell.com/root/Witts%20First%20Capital/BC5251123/309/Showroom_spg.htm
  14. Strange point of view. I've always heard it was the other way around. "Little" guys overcompensating by buying larger then required vehicles. Oh and Smarts actually start at $16,900.
  15. Actually Ford didn't really improve the reliablity of Jags much. They just traded the old electrical problems for new mechanical ones. At least the old ones had enormous character and made wonderful hobbies.
  16. It make take a while. Subaru still thinks our dollar is in the 60 cent US range like it was 5 or 6 years ago. It's why I buy used.. i.e. Canadian price 2.5GT Sedan 4-cylinder turbo engine Perforated leather interior Premium audio system Power moonroof SI-DRIVE Engine Management System View complete specs Starting at $40,295 http://www.subaru.ca/PricingTrim01.asp?WebPageID=6686&Range=Legacy&ModelYear=2008&WebSiteID=282 and now check out the US price... 2008 Legacy 2.5 GT Limited Starting at $28,295* A powerful engine and enriched amenities make the Legacy 2.5 GT Limited inviting to the senses. 17. It really depends where you live. I have a 15 ft travel trailer that weighs under 2000 lbs loaded. My Legacy could tow it in theory but I live in White Rock. BC (near Vancouver) and every road out of town involves climbing mountain passes. I tow it with a 95 Grand Cherokee 4.0 and on level roads it tows like it's not even there. Start up an long grade and even the big 4.0 six cylinder struggles. Avoid the big hills and mountains and you'll be fine.
  18. Shhh... I don't think he realizes the Pilot is just a minivan without the handy sliding doors.
  19. I agree completely. My brothers Celica was a serious money pit that had constant problems. My sister-in-law's Tercel had lots of little problems and then the engine failed really early dispite regular dealer service. On the other hand, My 91 Legacy is solid as a rock and aside from a quirky air suspension, is a completely trouble free daily driver.
  20. That's what I thought too from everything I read. The guy at the yard seemed quite sure of himself though. (not that I place a lot of faith in junkyards though) Mine is often at odd angles in the morning but it always corrects it's self when you start it up.
