  1. If you can get on my.subaru.com and register your vehicle you can see any previous service history they have records for, which would be mostly the dealer or owners can enter their own info too. It may or may not indicate whether the timing belt was done at the time.

Obviously the whether or not the timing belt was replaced would depend on whether the customer was told the belt should be replaced and whether or not the customer was willing to pay for at least the new belt?

Anyway, if you're at the timing belt replacement interval and there is any question as to whether or not the timing belt was replaced previously, you really must replace it or risk the consequences.

    Thanks I'll check that out.

  2. I have taken over a Legacy GT 2.5 Automatic. This car has, I think, a transmission issue and it is going to the dealer on the 26th of Dec. now, it gets rotten fuel economy, like it goes thru about 25 litres in 160 km or 5 gallons in 100 miles. like 20mpg. is this normal?

We'll I have a 2000 Legacy GT and I'm getting 17-18mpg all city:confused: So if you find something that helps please post it!

  3. We'll I'm getting 17mpg:eek: I checked plugs and they were new autolites, changed them to NGK V powers and new air filter. It's got 90k so I'm thinking might be time for a O2 sensor. Found a Denso for $95 are these any good? wheres the Best place to get a cheap one that works good. Thanks

  4. If it's only there when the engine is cold, then it's piston slap. Piston slap is not a problem. It is caused by the design of the pistons.

If it's there when it's warm then you could have a bearing issue. Main or Rod Bearings that are heavily worn and that means the engine is on it's last leg. The questions to ask does it use oil, and did it ever have a blown headgasket? If the owner drove the car for an extended period with a blown head gasket then you're in trouble. What happens then is that antifreeze gets into the oil and eats away at those bearings.

We'll it was warm after test drive and was still there. Checked the oil and it was new, but appeared to have too much in it! Dealer said that the head-gaskets are good). I guess I'll just keep looking.

  5. We'll I just checked out this 97 legacy GT with 102k. When I first started it everything sounded good. Went for a tset drive and heard a sound from the engine compartment like knocking or something. Open hood, sounds fine idling, but when you give it alittle gas between 1.5k and 3k rpms it sounds like it's knocking or detonating or ? It' definatly loud and disturbing but goes away at about 3k RPMS.

Just wondering if this sounds like a common problem (easy fix) or should I run away fast. To me it almost sounds like the timing isn't advancing right or something. Anyways we wanted to buy it until we heard that noise. Any insight would be great! Thanks
