Hi all, well time to gear up for a timing belt on the newly acquired 93ss 14x mi and from the looks of the my belts I'd say it hasnt been done from 60k. Maybe someone can make some suggestions on things I should do/replace while I'm there. And part numbers would be really helpful. timing belt I'll order 2 pulleys just in case. waterpump (wrx) 2 other belts should I replace the oil pump and o-ring? do I check the cam seals or just replace em anyway? should the adjuster get replaced also? thermostat Also if anyone has any reccomendations on where to get a good price on quality parts. thanks Chris

heres what I have found out, turbo legacy and wrx exhaust are the same diameter etc. Even the left side manifold is the same part #. We both have cats in DP, the WRX however has a cat in the header. No real performance to be gained.....anywhere. Well except that now I will replace my 12 yr old exhaust w/ a 2mo old exhaust, not bad. I am going to cut the cats out of the wrx system and install it. Then I will put the nice new cats in my old midpipe so I can swap it in for smog testing. Caleb, you just answered my question.

ok heres how I understand it. Yes the suspensions are interchangeable. for rears you have to use 92-94 top hats. my car is 93 so no prob. Heres why I am not doing it, Spring Rates. WRX fronts are only moderately stiffer than SS, WRX rears have LESS spring rate (WRX is a lighter rear). The RS springs have less rate than the WRX so the point is rather moot.

Edit:OMG, I shouldnt post when I'm so tired. Just got back from Tahoe and found an ad for RS suspension stuff for $50. I got so excited had to post. Guess I'll search now. I'll try and remain calm and coherent but I can't make any promises.

TD04L turbo in a EJ22t? or intercooler on VF11?
kidwired replied to kidwired's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
yeah, I've been reading quite a few posts on the subject since posting this. an IC is definately my ToDo list. As to the TD04 upgrade....still figuring it out. -
I am considering a tdo4 swap, wondering if this wouldnt make it easier. I understand the wrx up-pipe has a 3rd cat in it I dunno I guess my pipes are 2" and the wrx is 2.25", seems like alot of work for not much gain. A custom 3" is sounding a better option.

I've been reading on this a bit but still dont understand everything that would be needed. I found an ad for WRX factory exhaust "fits 02/03 wrx.. full exhaust system including up-pipe to muffler.. very good shape, price is firm.. " $100 Does that sound like everything I need? except the muffler I guess? Chris

TD04L turbo in a EJ22t? or intercooler on VF11?

oops yeah, I have a 93 SS. I'm still considering this and just found a wrx factory exhaust. the add reads "fits 02/03 wrx.. full exhaust system including up-pipe to muffler" I guess that means it doesnt include muffler? -
Where can I get an FSM? from working on BMW's copies are readily available for about $15. There is some guy sellin Repair manuals on ebay. Does anyone know what these are? I just bought one but I think it's a scam, guess I'll see. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7965842055&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT

Thanks thats very nice of you to offer. I noticed my drivers door speaker was much quieter than the other 3, played w/ fader and balnce to determine. I decided the OEM speaker was probably toast and grabbed an old set of 140w kenwood 6.5"s out of my garage and installed them. Same problem... so its either the amp itself or in the wiring, most likely where the wires pass thru the door hinge. In order to test I wanted to find the amp. How do I know if I have the "good" deck? In any case that's very helpful and good news, so I can just buy a high power deck and call it done, not mess w/ a factory amp and wiring. Thanks again Chris

I looked all over trying to find speaker adapters for my 93 legacy door. I found an adapter at crutchfield ($24!) and I still needed a spacer! I even found a site where you could download a CNC program to make your own, hmmm if I had a CNC machine..... So heres what I did. If you look at your stock speaker mount you can see most of the welds. I used a small dril bit to drill the welds out, then used a small cold chisel to pop things apart. As it starts coming apart the welds that were not visible become obvious, drill them out. I then tapped everything back into shape, clamped my new speaker to the frame and drilled new holes in the frame, ran in a couple of small sheetmetal screws and voila! Here it is, a 6.5" Kenwood 140w speaker in the stock mounting frame. another

Would a TD04L turbo be a good upgrade? I found one pretty cheap. EDIT: ok I found some info on it, I"m not sure it's worth the work or not. Only $75 for the turbo. Perhaps adding an intercooler to my current setup? Chris
