  1. I don't know about that. What kind of special tools would I need? What manual would be the best to use?
  2. Thanks for the reply. No way I'm doing it myself... Anyone mechanically inclined in the Seattle area want to come help me out? Kidding.... sort of About how much would it be to replace the gaskets? It's been a great car up til now with great power and unbelievable turn radius. It's a turbo 4x4 - fully loaded. Body and interior are both in very good condition. I hate to junk it.
  3. I was wondering if someone could help me out. I'm not a mechanic, but I think my 87 sub GL10 is in big trouble. Getting to the point. I started it up this morning and just a tone of white smoke started blowing out the tail pipe. It ran idle for about two minutes this way. I was hoping it would stop on it's own, but it just got worse. I shut it off and checked the coolant and it was low. Then checked the oil dip stick and I could see water mixed with the oil, and the oil was very light milky colored. Any chance of some good news coming out of this? Sounds like a cracked block I guess, but like i said, i'm no mechanic. Thanks much! Keck
  4. thanks for that quick search you did for me bubba
  5. Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to rebuild a turbo in an 87 gl-10? Thanks, Keck
  6. had an 81 gl wagon 4x4 with 289k, still running good when i sold it about 5 yrs ago. you hardly ever see those 81-83 wagon 4x4's anymore, i used to lead the pack of 4x4 broncos and blazers at this mud course in mine... i'd love to get another one
  7. hey, thanks a lot for all the help from everyone! the shop i went to told me that basically the whole exhaust system needed replacing, the pipe between the manifold and cat is rusted out, the cat is somehow bad, didn't get specific on what was bad about it, and the pipe is a double layer type pipe that's hard to repair. so 650 was for everything done, still, too much for me to afford at this time! i'll go check out some other muffler shops tommorrow, or maye even a wrecking yard. if one were to knock out the middle of that cat would one get more hp and better gas milage? more importantly, would one pass emissions? i'm guessing not.
  8. Just had my exhaust system checked for leaks and they're telling me I need a new cat at 650 bucks! Does anyone know a cheaper way around this? I need to get tabs shortly so I'll need to pass the emissions test, it's an 87 GL10 turbo. Anyone have similar problems? Thanks, Keck
  9. Was wondering about how to go about running a wire to the motor. Should I go from the fuse box direct to the motor? Or how should I do it? In testing the wires back to the switch, do you mean from the motor to the switch or fuse box to the switch? Do I use a continuity tester? When it comes to electrical work I'm a total novice! But I'm hurting for money and I need a heater.
  10. Sorry, when I said blower, I meant motor. Can you check out my pics I posted of some dissconected wires? Thanks so much for all your help. I just got my sub running after 6 months. Its running great now! But now all of a sudden my heater went out. Thanks...
  11. I unplugged the wire to the heater unit and tried another fuse, it blew right away too. Maybe I'm wrong, but if that wire is disconnected at the blower it must be a short somewhere?? I'm no electrician so please tell me if I'm wrong. Keck
  12. Please look in the photo gallery. Can anyone identify these? Any help would be great! Thanks, Keck
  13. I keep blowing 15a fuses for my heater, they blow right away even with the ignition off. Looked for any exposed wires, but can't find anything except one little 1/4" strip of exposed wire on the passenger side. It's a black wire that goes into a white wire, looks like it was designed that way. Does anyone know what i'm talking about or has seen this? Also, under the fuse box on the drivers side are two sets of connectors, ones green and one is purple, they are both dissconected. Does anyone know what they do? I'd post some nice close up pictures of them if I knew how to attach them in here. I have them on my pc. Can anyone tell me how to go about posting pics? Thanks alot! Keck
  14. i found the ground wire, black.. i got all four speakers working, i didnt use the two ground wire on the back speakers, dont ask me how that works, but the sound is great! only problem is getting the switched power... i'll give it a try with the cig though thanks
