  1. It's not traction you need to be worrying about when you are fording a deep puddle, it's sucking water into your motor you need to avoid! Going fast through deep water pushes a large swell of water up into the front of your vehicle, and if it's deep enough, or you are going fast enough the water could get into your air intake. Once this happens you are almost certain to destroy your engine as water CANNOT be compressed and once in there will damage your pistons, connecting rods, valves, etc. Seriously, you could total your motor this way, so please take it slow through the puddles tyo avoid sucking it in. It would be a good idea to go out and see where your intake is so you know how far you can go... Just my 2 cents, trying to save you some pain! Trentski 98 Subaru Forester
  2. Is there anyone with a FSM who could tell me the inside and outside diameter of the coil springs (front and rear) on a 98 Forester L? Shopping ebay for a FSM but haven't found one yet. Anyone else with experience with coil spacers can chime in too, I'm looking to lift mine another inch or so to complement the 215/75's I put on there the other day. (9 inches clearance and counting!)   3. Exactly, my 98 Forester had the same problem, a quick adjustment so the clutch pedal depresses the switch and the cruise works again. Cost to fix = FREE. FYI - There should be a nut on either side of the bracket - if one is missing find one the right size to hold the switch in place. Sandwich the bracket between the nuts with the plunger through the hole. (Damn that sounds sleazy but its the only way to properly describe it!) Trento 98 Forester L 5 SP
  4. It's actually closer to 5%, I was ballparking it. (e.g changes 3.55 to 3.77 or something like that). I can go lock to lock on turns without any rubbing, and haven't hit anything big enough to cause any type of bottoming out of the coils. The rear tire well has less room left around the tire than the front, they have lots of clearance up front. I forgot the cable to connect my camera --> pc today, so I'll upload pics tonight.
  5. And the answer is.... drumroll please..... . . . THEY DO FIT. Whew, Less than 1/8" clearance to the spring perch in the rear, but they fit. And they look GREAT. I'll post pics once I get them uploaded. Some things to keep in mind: The speedometer will be off by 5% at highway speed. You are going 70 MPH when it reads 66. So be careful with the speed. The difference is greater the faster you are go. You lose a little low end torque due to the larger tire diameter, reduces gearing by about 10%. You are going 70 at 2800 rpm instead of 3000 though, so you save gas! You also put fewer miles on the odometer due to larger tire diameter, for every 1000 miles driven you record 944 miles. THEY LOOK GREAT though! :-D
  6. Going to find out today. I think they will fit - the tire is 2" taller than the stock 205's, should add 1" lift making a bit more room for themselves. Going with the KUMHO Road Venture AT's. I'll post the results. Trentski (98 Forester L)
  7. Greetings all - I'm Trent and just picked up my second used 1998 Forester. I'm in SE PA (US) not too far from Reading. I already love this board, I happened across a post regarding a malfunctioning cruise control, which mine has, the post recommended checking the switch on the clutch pedal, and sure enough when I reached under there it actually fell off the bracket. So I reconnected it, and bingo that did the trick :-D, so thanks!!!!! My plans include lifting the car, I'd really like about 3" lift above stock. Anyone who has done this kind of modification, please advise how you went about it. I'll be posting some specific questions related to this as I come up with them. Anyway, just wanted to say Hi!
