  1. 93 Loyale 161,000 miles Front main seal looks dry, cam seals look dry..replacing them anyway ( i think).. Oil is dispersed everywhere making it difficult to pinpoint where it's coming from...I'll do the valve cover gaskets....am I doing the head gaskets? I can't exactly clean it up and try to recreate a leak with the engine out right? SO this means I'm doing everything? humor me many thanks
  2. So I ordered a timing belt kit from this ebay site: http://www.ebay.com/itm/230786479323?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_1624wt_931 they were within the 200 mile radius, that's the only reason..they weren't the cheapest.. The box arrives with the two belts, two tensioners, no idler sprocket...there's an empty spot in the custom made foam packing. I send an email...get a response stating: "The sprocket is not in any of our inventory items If there is anything further we can do to assist you, please do not hesitate to give us a call 1-888-501-6588 or e-mail us at sales@carpartkings.com. Have a great day!" I call and the guy says no box they have includes the sprocket..he's clueless as to why, says he's not familiar with the package at all, states he's never sold one... Needless to say a case is being opened at Ebay since I paid for the advertised package. Someone tell me about this sprocket...obviously it should be replaced when doing the belts?
  3. Fair enough.. this is what I expected / hoped to hear..Many, Many thanks Trigger being pulled.
  4. I'm back..Well, I'll prob end up being "that guy" somewhere along in this operation... GD, if you're still around..this company also doesn't recognize the the 93 Loyale as a fit for the 15008...I trust your judgement and experience..but why are these company's leaving the 93 Loyale out of the picture? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Exedy-OEM-Clutch-Kit-Subaru-Baja-86-89-H4-1-8L?item=310224766539&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms My disc is 225mm and everything else matches the 15008....and yet they leave the 93 Loyale off the list. I guess I'm a little gun shy with all the horror stories...but wanna pull the trigger.. still going crazy here and prob for no reason..right??
  5. Thanks GD... Thanks Rugby for waking me up. Thanks kayoteq for..i dunno ...but you tried The Amazon fitness chart and their fitness verification, at least for this 93 Loyale, is wrong when using their format (which is not processing4WD vs 2WD issue I suppose)...they tell me the 15008 will NOT fit my vehicle and they try to ram a 15001 at me....but based on the pics matching my worn out (over 100,000 miles) clutch and GD's confirmation am feeling good about not being another "that guy".. Will be back... thanks again
  6. Thanks GD...good splain'n Now please put me out of my misery...do I want an Exedy 15001 or an Exedy 15008?
  7. Hey Deener, I'm sorry for your troubles and all....it sounds like we have the same Loyale. Can you tell me if you're using the Exedy 15001 or Exedy 15008??
  8. Many thanks Rugby, I didn't consider 4 wheel vs 2 wheel..you may have saved me. The pics of 15008 sure looks more like what I have, which is 4WD. A side note question,,why are the clutch components different (4 wd vs 2 wd)? Aren't both versions front wheel drive if not in 4wd...what extra does the clutch have to do for 4wd vs 2wd....this may be a dumb question
  9. Taking my engine out today...finally Going crazy looking at the price variations of clutch kits on Ebay... An Exedy Kit #15001 = $103 An Exedy Kit #15008 =$219 What're the real differences..one fits more models?...better components? The variations are many...can find kits at $80 and under NAPA will get me one for $184.00 Want to order something today..along with timing belts, oil seals, water pump..NAPA says can give a package deal if I have AAA...don't have.. edit: while I'm at it, just noticed timing belt kits that include the water pump for $100 NAPA says my Belts will be $298 w/o pump ($41) goin crazy here.. as you can see I've let the research go till the last minute..but hey, Thanks for any help
  10. .. was reading this with considerable concern / interest, got to the fifth line of the post.. and had to laugh..I'm sorry, the guy is prob okay..guess you had to be there..
  11. yikes..same situation here...recently moved.. (any suby gurus in southern ct??) I have a motorcycle as a spare vehicle..not much space to work on the car..also way overdue for timing belt, a front axle, brakes would be good to have thanks, you other guys, on the clutch recommendations
  12. still chugging and slipping along.. QUESTION: the ebay clutch kit prices are all over the place...from $45.00 to a couple hundred $ for a 93 4WD Loyale ANYTHING I SHOULD AVOID?? thanks for any info btw, this ^^ is a joke... at myself, for the ridiculousness of the situation... I can be incomprehensible at times
  13. sounds just like me ,987687 traveling the parkway isn't too relaxing...were on the same page, I'm doing what you suggest on pins an needlles thanks
  14. I found the thread that probably seals my reality and you're in this thread hatch, ... once again, thanks. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=115083&highlight=clutch+slipping any suby gurus in southwest ct.? I probably won't tackle this myself...maybe..but.. fack..
  15. thanks hatchsub, I'll look into that, it prob is the original clutch, having had her since 47,000 miles and can't recall any clutch work. So, driving it as is, feathering the gas pedal to keep rpms compatible with forward movement...is... a bad thing?
  16. Have a 1993 Loyale @ 154,000 miles. I've always kept the workings of a clutch at arms length...it's slipping, mostly in 3rd gear, and I need to prolong it's life for a couple more weeks...any adjustment I can make or "once it starts slipping that's it"...anything??? ok will start serching old threads now but while I do, thought I'd throw this out there...happy saturday and thanks...
  17. Ghetto Fix, Catalytic Converter Flange: The original gasket material between the flanges disintegrated, the spring loaded bolts are so rusted they'd need cutting and more work/ time than I wanted to deal with. I had some woodstove rope gasket laying around, wrapped and pushed it into the void between the flanges, and then hose clamped it. This worked a few days until the flange nearest the converter developed a crack. I lathered the open crack with J-Weld (600 dgree, not J-Weld Kwick), wasn't confident that was going to survive so I wrapped and pushed some more woodstove rope into the un-set J-Weld, then lathered the rope and let it sit overnight. She's running smooth, efficient, and as quiet as if I'd cut, re welded new pipe sections or went for aftermarket flanges. I may be on borrowed time but if it fails soon I'll let you know. I'm excited (it doesn't take much) about the combo of rope and J-Weld though for difficult areas to seal like this one. that rusted nut/screw in the foreground is welded onto the top of the converter , seems like a hanger bolt? Anyway, thought I'd give back a little..
  18. yeah, I should turn in the man card for even asking again....the brushes were def shot. I replaced the blower with a used one, works well in settings 3 and 4. Will look into the resistor block. Alternator wasn't an issue..thanks again, guys Going for a ride strictly to relish in the heat.
  19. Thanks for the parts offers and help. Thread is almost a year old...took care of the alternator. The blower gave up entirely, no matter how many times I hit the glove box..heh. Today, took out the glove box, tapped the blower motor with a hammer and it started, couple more taps, full blow, then it peter'd out slowly to a dead stop. Couple more taps got it started, then peter out. This only happens on number four, highest setting. Going back out to check things using all the info offered above..if the latest hammering technique narrows it down more, please let me know. Maybe I just need to hit it really hard, heh.
  20. Thanks all you guys. I whacked the glove compartment a couple times and the fan came on. So far so good. :-))) Merry Christmas
  21. Ya know, my coming here so often lately is not a good sign :-)) On a 3 hr road trip, yesterday, my heat blower stopped blowing....then randomly it would start up again. This happened three times or more, now it's not blowing at all on any setting. I noticed, before this happened, that the "door lock" and clock light on the dash were flickering slightly. I turned off the head lights and the clock and dash light lit up very much brighter. Can I assume that the alternator is going bad? Can I assume that this is the reason for the blower jumping in and out of working?? IE: does the blower need a specific amount of juice? The blower already gave up on settings 1 & 2 a long time ago but I think that's a different issue, one I wasn't concerned about as long as I had setting 3 & 4 working. Now I ain't happy. thanks in advance
  22. On a 93 Loyale Fuel Injected. A long story, but the guys who did my timing advanced it to 23 degress BTDC(instead of 20 BTDC?) and chose to leave it at that. She started and ran very well for two weeks so I chose not to mess with it. Tonight, (and couple days earlier) now that it's starting to dip cold, she doesn't want to start unless I stomp the gas to the floor. I know about the idle air control valve since I asked a similar question a couple years ago, I'm just wondering if timing could now be a cold issue also. I'm thinking she won't be starting tomorrow morn. thanks RJ
  23. Thanks. I haven't searched for used tranny's and two of you guys are offering yours up. Pm me, I guess, if you want to discuss costs or if you want to buy this car. I know my ex wants to re-coup some money after recently having plunked $400 work into it(wheel bearing/ ball joint issue). That said, I'd love to do the work myself and may offer to buy her out. I really like the car, esp. since it matches mine, other than I have a 5 speed standard. I'd like to change this over to a standard but it's not necessary. I bought him excellent snow tires which are now on my car, so I kinda made out a bit. Miles, I remember you were on a traveling repair odyssey awhile back. Long Island is kinda far from central Vt. What are you actually offering? Like I say you guys can pm me if you want. mdjdc, where'd you go?
