yah, well that rag top is nice, but how about us more practical types... I wish (that's all it will be) for a NEW PICKUP, not the so called thing that Subaru has out there now. No, a pickup that is a 2 DOOR, with a bed that is usable. Maybe even a few options like..hit a switch and the car is higher off the ground, and I could go on. How about a real new age Brat, that's what I am talkin about.....

You could look at the www.ipdusa.com site for starters. You might need some help installing some of their equipment. I have a 2005 OBW, 2345 miles on it. I am going in the other direction, trying to drive like the law says, which I have been doing, and getting 27MPG around town. Different values I guess. Maybe you should bite the bullet and trade it in on the GT.

Congradulations! You have made a wise choice and have great taste (ok, I too own a 2005 OBW) Not sure abut the drive by wire you are talking about. Maybe someone else can tell us both. I do know that driving in sport mode takes some getting used to, as in not overreving the engine and watching out for down shifting and missing a gear and winding out the engine. I have done that, but now have a feel for it and like it at times. over.

We are on our secound Subaru, had a windfall and bought a new one, not that there was anyting wrong with the 2001 we had. I drove it a lot on dirt and gravel roads due to a hobby addiction (R/C Gliders) and NEVER had one thing go wrong in 88 thousand miles. Did regular maintance. Probably should have kept it. Got sucked into the new car mindset. Resale values are good, check Kelley Blue Book. If I drove like the law said I would get over 26 MPG in town and even got over 31 on a long highway trip. Usually, due to a lead foot, I got about 22 in town and 27-28 on the long trips. Not sure what the previous post was all about, I think my experience is pretty typical of most Subaru owners. Look for a used 2001 with low miles, a 2G engine not as prone to blown head gaskets (I bet the experts will chime in here) Eric

I have an 05 in the same blue, but I call it Pacific Blue (it's a west coast thing) And did I tell you that blue gets the best MPG?......

One our second Outback, an 05, which now has all of 2455 miles on it. Never, that's never did I have a problem with my 2000 Outback, and I drove it a lot on gravel and dirt roads(hobby related) Probably did not need a new one, but what can I say. I have been trying an experiment. Usually I just drive the Outback with a non regulated foot on the gas pedal, but with the readout of milage on the new Outback, I can monitor what I get while driving around town. Driving at the speed limits and acclerating slow I am getting 26.4 MPG in town driving. Not bad for an all wheel drive vehicle. And prices of fuel being what they are... I don't know what an Impala gets. I don't think there is a comparison between and Impala and a new Outback. Handeling in snowy conditions not much beats an Outback. What else can I say?

Yes, I thought about the first year redesign problems...but I was running on blind faith. I will have it fixed and if that's the only thing that goes wrong, I will be quite happy...

I am not saying it is a lemon, just that the design of the new Outbacks in certain respects may not be what they once were. Form follows function, but not in this case. I don't like the trend, chassing dollars and giving up good design just for the look of it. Clear as mud? No, I don't think I have a lemon, but am dissapointed that something that should last (the stupid door pull) failed after a very short time. I can see how it was made and am saddended by it. End of rant.

We broke the piggy bannk and bought a new OBW, and now have 2348 miles on it. I just noticed that the passenger door handle, inside, has come loose at the top mount. Looks like some small plastic bits broken off. Strange because I have been driving it most of the time alone. My old OBW had a horizontal door pull inside, never a problem with it. Is this a sign of things to come? (who knows) More of the Subaru going downhill on its quality?

I like my OBW a lot, but also like driving the 2005 Prius I bought for my wife. 11 thousand miles so far, no problems, average MPG 49.7. When I need the Subaru, hauling stuff, snow season, back roads, I am set. The rest of the time the Toy Prius is just great. Still need two cars, this is our answer. so far....

Traitor...just kidding. Actually I was thinking about the Toyota Highlander Hybrid. I could not justify the 10 thousand dollars more than my new OBW. We do have an 05 Prius. OB does the dirty work, Prius for trips. Would like to get down to one vehicle....Wonder if the higher ups at Subaru are thinking about Hybrids/alternative vehicles? OK, so I went off topic....

I have had a new ,2005, OBW for a little over 2000 miles and have now come off the "new car cloud". The realization is that my 2001 OBW had more power and handled and drove better. I traded the 2001 in on a new one because I had a windfall of money and decided it would be nice to have a new one, I was wrong. And on top of it, the new one does not get as good milage as the 01. The 05 is heavier, slugish and rolls more on turns. Maybe I should get a sex change and become a soccer mom, Eric

Three blocks away a B9 , black, sits in the driveway. I have never seen it move or the driver. That's it, and just me, my second OBW..this one a new 05, blue. Keeping up with the neighbors happens here, but with things like boats, RV's and the bragging about the cost of their houses..maybe I should look for more Subaru's littered about when I go to buy my next house....

An ash try can come in handy for small bits, but the one in my 05 OBW was a small thing, and was made to pop out and leave a functional space for stuff. As for having one in the first place, with 400 thousand people dying from smoking related lung cancer, an ashtray left out of a production car is a good thing. Time for more people to get the picture.
