  1. ok, after a new battery, the TPS adjustments, and double checkinghte timing(off by 5), I took her out for a spin, it starts with no problem, idles great, even drives great at low speeds, took her out on the highway today acceleration is better and the turbo indicator light comes on alot later than it did, she could act a bit better but I think there is still some timing issues, with the green connectors connected, I cannot get the car to idle smooth below about 900 RPM maybe a little lower, but she pulsates between about 800 and close to stalling and some times she stalls so I cannot get the timing just right. Can anyone suggest what could be making the car not idle smooth below that point? I need her to idle at 700 RPM's steady to set the idle.... please help and thank you for all the help so far.....
  2. MAF is hotwire. can't see any broken wires. Grounding the ECU makes sense with the following kinda. Codes all over the place means 23- Air Flow Meter or circuit 31- Throttle sensor or circuit 32- o2 sensor or circuit 44- Wastegate duty solenoid then drive the care around after reset and you get 34 EGR Solenoid or Circuit 35 Purge Control Solenoid or Circuit 42 Idle Switch or Circuit 51 Neutral Switch (Manual Transmission Models) and so on, just get different codes, usually the same groups though. The distibutor is New along with the cap and rotor. Replaced the engine, swapped the intake and all wiring haresses for use with my ECU. Is there a way to test the MAF or adjust it maybe?
  3. I think I found it, Under the throttle body, looks like a tube with 3 hoses coming out of it? its kinda hard to get to isn't it? It is an Early 87, manufacture date is october 86. it Wanders worst when Green connector is connected.. Wanders little when not connected.
  4. Now this my sound strange coming from the guy who replaced his engine and did all of the above, but where is the fule pressure regulator located on this car. on the engine or on the fuel tank? I have no illistrations just a manual that tells how to replace it,.. typical remove power, disconnect, put in new one and connect power. does not say where it is. The timing is kinda set I guess, it will not stay stable, it fluctuates, it was set to +20 BTDC but it moves or dips to +10 and above 20. Idle seems to change when it does this. Thank you all for the help, I will recheck all your suggestions. Oh and does anyone have a vacuum line diagram with direction of flow on it? I have a few (I guess you would call them) check valves and not sure if I put them in with flow in the right direction.
  5. Car make: Subaru XT Turbo Eingine: EA82T Asperation: MPFI Problems: 1. Vehical Dogs when excellerating, will cruise at any speed with no problem, Idles fine. 2. Turbo indicator light on dash comes on at way to early, (2000rpms, 2nd gear 35MPH excellerating to 40 MPH) 3. When turbo indicator light comes on, vehical really dogs then will slowly while and jumpingly(is that a word) excellerate. 4. With all 4 injector unplugged car still idles?????? so far, have..... a. new Engine. b. new turbo. c. new plugs, wires, cap-n-rotor d. new distributor e. new exhaust (both cats) f. new injectors Been reading alot of post latley trying to still fix my Sub. the throttle body and intake manifold were the only parts transfered from old Engine that was having the same problem that started after bringing the car back from the dealership where they changed a coolant hose under the turbo. adjusted the TPS to specs from post I read here car runs a little better but still dogs just not as much. there are 2 adjustment screws on the throttle body but all manuals I have read say there are no adustments for the throttle body????? unless someone has them, is there something else I should adjust. error codes I get are all over the place, they seem to change everytime I read them. is there any suggestions short of buy a new car(I already did, but love my suby) that can help, I would love to hear them. I really need Help here bad.
  6. I think I like the kit a little, but, the front lip i don't like, and the side skirts are too plain, this is kinda why I was asking about the older prelude kits and some slight fabrication, if for no other reason but to have more options.
  7. LOL, I have seen the GAME, but My XT is real, but thanks subyrally. subaru_styles thanks, this is the most info I have seen on a kit for this car. I have owned it since 1987 and have never been able to find one anywhere. I will have to check out that website. Thanks again, both of you...
  8. Has anyone ever been able to find a body kit for the XT/XT6 coupes. Or can one be fabricated from an older Honda prelude body kit, (bodys are similar in shape don't you think). I kinda want to try fabrications but afraid to jump into something this big. has anyone ever tried something like this for an XT/XT6 coupe?
  9. Sorry I did not clarify, The solenoid was removed from the vehicle when I checked for Normally opened/Normally closed, and the connector was not plugged into the solenoid when I tested voltage at the connector. Thank you, yes this information does help very much. one wierd things though, the wastegate solenoid seems to be clattering away when the (green) test leads are connected. Is this normal for timing?
  10. Skip, I have the chilton subaru manual, it tells me how to test most of the sensors and there circuits, the wastegate solenoid is not in the manual anywhere. Would you happen to know how i test this unit? What is its resting state, is it normaly closed or normally open? I get a short across the poles 0.02ohms. 13.47vdc at the connector with engine running. I am testing the units because I recieved several error codes all at once, thinking it may be a common ground causing the errors. thanks for any help.
  11. Yeah that lost me too, I put the meter on it, it reads a short right now. I cleared the codes and now if I unplug the wastegate solenoid, I get a current error code for it,(CEL is on) plug it back in and the code goes away. cleared again and now I am getting all different codes... 34 EGR Solenoid or Circuit 35 Purge Control Solenoid or Circuit 42 Idle Switch or Circuit 51 Neutral Switch (Manual Transmission Models) I definately have a ground problem here somewhere. I will have to pull wires and ohm 'em all out. maybe replace them all... Thanks
  12. Does anyone know if the wastegate solenoid is normally open or closed? should I be reading a short across the post or an open?
  13. Well after finally getting around to reading the post on here, (which I should have done first), I looked at the error codes and found quite a few... 23- Air Flow Meter or circuit 31- Throttle sensor or circuit 32- o2 sensor or circuit 44- Wastegate duty solenoid Well, my question now, before I go changing all these parts out, is, would a bad ground somewhere on the Vehicle cause all these to happen at once, basically meaning the circuit for oll the above is where the problem is, not so much the actual part? I ask this cause the green test connector in the trunk no longer is connected to ground so it causes issue when timing the vehicle, I have to ground it to the vehicle to time it. or am I just making things worst? anyway this site is awsome, lots of info here, some I have been looking for forever cause the dealers are keeping it secret so you just buy a new car form them instead...... Thanks
  14. I will start from the beginning...... Car had a coolant leak, took car into subaru dealership to repair, after leaving notice loss of power when turbo Light on the dash lights up, took car back to dealer, they tell me nothing is wrong with it. about a month lather I get a knocking sound, decide to rebuilt engine and noticed block was cracked inside oilpump area, replaced engine, but still have the same power loss problem from the turbo, the car has both newer engine and turbo in it, new plugs, cap rotor and wires, and it still has the same problem. currently.... Car now idles fine at start up, but when hard excellerating the car bucks and sometimes feels like the engine is going to quit, car will excel fine with normal excelleration up to 90MPH, (i did not try to go any faster) then when I stop the car dies, but willstart right back up again and idle normal. I am at the end of my knowledge of this car, can anyone help me with any ideas where to go next. 87 Subaru XT Turbo, 1.8Lt EA82 MPFI. Thanks
