  1. I'd just like the option of being able to move it around town. if we go up to the mountains, we can use my friends expedition. You don't even know you're towing them.
  2. The only thing I'm going to miss about my explorer is towing my snowmobile. Is towing an option with a 96 2.2 legacy sedan? If nothing else just to move it around town, not tow it up the mountains, even with the explorer that would be a drag (pun intended)
  3. I have no intentions of going to a dealer if for nothing else, juist don't have the cash to pay for that. If I just touch the clutch pedal, it stops. So little that it makes me wonder if its not just an adjustment.
  4. Well, I knew going in that a clutch would be a possibilty. Now, to figure out how long I have. I'm not going to tackle the clutch by myself (I know my limits) I have a familty friend mechanic who I think will do it for $400. I'll just have to make sure they know i want the "kit" not just the clutch. It shifts fairly well for what I'm assuming is a clutch with 129,000 on it.
  5. The old owner said it might need a clutch. I can live with the noise if I can get some life out of this clutch. Besides the bucking starts when cold, the clutch seems fine.
  6. When I'm driving, my car sounds like a cricket at night in the woods. Its pretty loud. If i apply even the slightest touch to the clutch pedal, it goes away. Could this have anything to do with the cold clutch bucking?
  7. Thank you, basically, everything she told me about the car (one mnor front accident). I guess there is a recall I can take it in for, front spring covers?
  8. Lauren, very kind offer. i already bought the car, but it would be cool to know more about it: 4S3BD4350T6209929 Matt
  9. I just installed my alpine. Is there an easier car to install a radio in? It fits like a glove, four screws lined up, take off the trim and it looks like it was meant to be there.
  10. I got it today, it actually has 129,000, but thats still okay by me. The car drives straight, smooth and feels good. The clutch seems fine, but it does somethings I'm not used to. When you first take off from first, it seems to buck a little almost skip a bit. Like its hard to get a real smooth start. You're almost better off giving it more gas than trying tio finess it. But it shifts smooth, goes into all gears easy and the pedal is light to the push. When I'm shifting at higher speeds (say about 20 or 30) something is making a reving or perhaps slught growling noise when the clutch is pressed in. Its minor, but it got my attention. The engine doesn't rev higher, perhaps its the throw out bearing.... I don't know.
  11. Once a year??? no problem. love the WD40! You guys are making me feel good about this. I'm selling my gas loving 99 explorer. I like the truck, but with gas prices the way they are, I'm making the switch. Besides, i think subbies are more my speed and mentality. Can't wait to get a 5-speed again!
  12. I just bought from a co-worker a 96 Legacy L Sedan AWD 5 speed. It has 120,000 miles on it. The body is in fair shape with a few parking lot scrapes and scratches, but nothing major. She said it might need a clutch becasue sometimes when driving hard it "pops" when shifting from 1st to 2nd. The clutch felt very good and shifted no problem, I didn't drive it hard, just as I would in every day driving. i don't see myself replacing the clutch anytime soon. What is wrong: There seems to be a small oil leak. It ahd been sitting for a week and there was only a few drops under the car, she said it needs oil added a litle here and there. I didn't pin point where it was coming from, but from what I've read here, this is nothing new and nothing to not buy this because of. The hood doesn't stay locked down, just lever that locks in is holding it. I'll try adjusting the levelers. I paid $1500. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated
  13. I passed. As much as I'd like to get into a subaru and this was a great deal in my opinion, now just wasn't a good time for me to drop money I shouldn't be spending... anyways, she reposted it for $3500 now, but its up for anyone who wants...just know she was giving it to me for $3050 and was eager to sell it to someone who knew about fixing them since it had high millage...she didn't want to sell it to someone who had no clue about what a hig illage car might require. I drove it and its smooth, never beat on and has a clean carfax. This isn't someone trying to sell a lemon, just a college girl moving and looking for a downpayment on a lease. Tell her Matt sent you. http://boston.craigslist.com/car/70742044.html
  14. I'd rather have that 01 and drop an engine in it. Its close enough that I could pick it up... How much would an engine for an 01 phase 2 2.5 run??
  15. well, I just paid the $19.99 to confirm what the girl said she found on the car fax, its flawless (by carfax standards)
  16. You guys are killing me... how much life could there be left at 150k? Its a nice car besides this board making me nervous...
  17. She won't budge on the price. I think i might go look at it again, see if the reservoir looks clean and scoop it up... and re-sell it for what it's worth. (and buy a sub I can depend on)
  18. I think I'm backing out. It runs great, but I've read too many stories of not being if, but when... I need more reliability tahn that, even if it has 150k.
  19. I did a carfax on a car I'm about to buy and it listed the engine as 2.5L H-4 MPI SOHC. I thought it was a DOHC. Could this be true? Isn't the SOHC the phase 2 and better?
  20. I'm going to delay on giving a deposit on it tonight and call the dealership/1800-subaru3 tomorrow and see what they can tell me. I was really excited about finally getting a subaru,a forester no less and now that I've done my research I'm finding that they're junk. Are they all junk as in stay away...or a few? If the car is in good shape and running great at 150k is that a good indication that maybe the HG was done by the dealership a while back??? $3000 seemed like a great deal a few hours ago...
