bought my 98 Forster S, Manual DOHC some years ago. after 230k, she succumbed to a tree on the icy roads. Picked up a 99 S, Man Tran a month ago. Figuring out the differences in engines, purchasing lift parts and suspension components soon!

  1. At least you know what to expect from consumption. My mechanic suggested a slightly heavier oil in my 99 engine to help with the consumption. After an oil change I went to a 5/30 syn blend oil, and walla! No more oil use. Granted I’m at 260,000 miles on original engine. Previous owner sold it because of smoking exhaust. I’ve owned this car since first of the year, no more burning oil, runs like a champ and gets 25+ mpg!!
  2. I had a similar noise with my 98 manual, heavy chunk, sometimes a metallic ‘bang’ when shifting hard on Kansas travel roads (similar to ice conditions). I replaced engine and transmission mounts and cured it. Visually, they looked fine, but once removed I could see the metal to metal contact.
