  1. Hard to translate from US to Canada $$, maybe you're better at it than me. Anyway, I don't usually go by the blue book, I check for listings in Autotrader.com or cars.com and see what other people are asking for similar vehilces. Knock off $500 usd for the tranny if its bad. Thats how much a junk yard tranny costs...if you can find one. Just a thought.

Great, Thats what I was expecting. Do you think someone will actually buy this car witha tranny starting to go. I was hoping about 2000$ canadian.

  2. Was just wondering what i could sell my car for. In good Excellent running shape besides my Friggen transmission. Abs is not hooked up and I also have a cracked windsheild. 200,000kms. I was just going to sell it for cheap. What do you guys think I should do I have put way too much into this car already. last i was almost 4000$ in tranny work. Just not worth it to do it again unless I find a cheap tranny. Which in can is hard to do, specially for a turbo suba. and Automatic, and ideas? Or anyone got a tranny they want to sell. lol

  3. Have not adjusted the bands. Dont know where there are. What do the bands do? When cold the tranny will still slip in the first gear just when taking off. Once your going it is fine. When warm it is just a little worse. Just in the fist two gears though. Whe shifting from first to sec it doesn't want to seem to engage. It just takes it time. Revs out then goes in to gear. After these two gears the rest are fine. It seems like once it builds up enoguh pressure it is fine. But still what do the bands do?

OK. I checked in my service manual about the brake band. It says to turn the screw 1/4 of a turn counter clockwise if these symptoms are happening. And this matches the desription to a tee pretty much, Jolts when shifting from 1st to 2nd.- engine speed udruptly arises from 2nd to 3rd, -shift delays in kickdown from 3rd to sec- car slips from 1st to 2nd. I need to put the car up on stands and turn this damn screw, Hopefully this is the fix.

  4. I do not have a manual that covers the 4EAT, but I assume that it has a forward/reverse band? Has this band been adjusted?

  5. My sunroof has been leaking for a little while now. It first started working on and off, now my sun roof doesn't work at all. I have a feeling all the water caused corrosion around the wirning going to the motor for the sun roof. Before if I hit the roof it would work. Must have just been moving wires around and eventually it would get a good connection. But now there is nothing. Any other ideas. And I eventually will tear my roof apart to visually see what the problem is. Does anyone know how long this job usually takes. I took a look to see what is involved in removing the ceiling and it doesn't look like much. Is that all there is, is just a few srews?

  6. Have you read my swap info?

wow that is crazy. Lots of work. And how long have you been a mechanic. lol. You know lots. Im impressed. Im just a first year automotive tech. student. I read a part in the journal about the ecu for a 1992 being the same for AT/MT. Would that mean I wouldn't have to touch my wiring, since mine is a 1992 w/turbo? And would that be a lot less work for a swap? And what about axles and rear diff? Is the tranny still the same length. I noticed you upgraded a lot of other parts. If I am just swapping tranny's is there any other parts that I would have to swap?. Thanks for all the info.:)

  7. Im am getting real frustrated with this tranny problem I keep having. This is my third transmission with in the past two years. The one I have now has a delay and it feels like it is slipping just in first and sec gear when apply lots of gas. I was just wondering if it would be worth the time or money to convert to a manual and how much work would it involve. Or money. How many hours from a mechanic?

  8. 260,000 miles! That's incredible! Our mechanic says that our Legacy is going to have some exhaust problems in the near future, though. Apparently it already has an aftermarket muffler that someone has stuck on and since the entire exhaust is one piece and the flanges are weak, we're going to have to replace the whole thing at a cost of something like $1500 (Cdn). There's some large piece up at the front of the exhaust alone that costs $700 and can only be purchased through a Subaru dealer. Does that make any sense? The exhaust sounds great now but apparently the pipe is very thin and won't last much longer. I found this out before I bought the car, incidently, when I took the car to my mechanic before we finalized the sale; the seller took some money off the selling price in response.

I am from belleville Ontario. I dont know if you know where that is but its about 3 hrs east of you. I have an 92 legacy as well. I had to replace all my exhaust and it wasn't even close to $1500. I dealt with carqest. They could get all my stuff. And for the best prices. I dont know if you have one close to you but I would imagine you would. Try there and see what happens.

  9. Took it to mister transmission this morning and they said it sounds like a seal is leaking internal. I had thought that cause you could here the fluid squirting past the seal where ever it is. I put this stuff from lucas oil. Its supposed to stop leaks and slippage. The seals will shrin in time. This stuff makes the seals swell back up and helps keep the tranny cool. So far problem is about 80% fixed and the fluid has only been in there for about 1/2 hour of running it. Hopefully this will be a cheap fix.
