Hey all, Was getting my 99OBW ready for a trip to NY this weekend. I noticed that one of the tires has some small cuts in the sidewall. It looks like cuts a razorblade would make but It's from curbs from the previous owner i'm willing to bet. They don't leak air at all, I blew the tire up to 40 psi and put it in the tank here at work. We have to drive 7 hrs one way. You think it's safe to drive on? The tires are getting old and have 4/10 of the tread left. I can get a deal on good kumho's on tire rack for 39 bucks a piece. Think I need to try and get new tires put on before we go?

Eh, if you keep doing flush and fills, like 3 or so, you'd pretty much have new good fluid in there. You could also do a flush and fill and that would have new fluid. I put it in because we just bought the car used and the tranny fluid was never changed it looks like. So since I new I'd be doing at least 2 drain and fills and I had to fix a tranny pan leak, I new I'd get alot of the old stuff out. -

I have always had excellent luck with Mobil and Mobil1 products. I'm extremly loyal I guess you would say when it comes to the fluids in my car. Always mobil fluids, Sunoco (or Mobil) gas, and chevron fuel system cleaner. If you want extremely good protection, I'd get the Mobil 1 ATF. about $5 bucks a quart. -
Has anybody figured out a good way to do this without spilling tranny fluid all over the place?? I'm assuming i'm doing it right by adding through the dipstick tube. I used the smallest funnel I could find last time and it ran everywhere. I thought my pan was leaking till I figured out what was going on. Who's got tips??

K&N Filters do just fine with filtering out particles large enough to cause engine damage. I have one on my car and my wife's car and neither of us has had a problem. I've been using their filters for over 5 years now and never had a problem. Check out their website about how well they filter. There are independant tests that prove they filter just fine. http://knfilters.com/facts.htm#word If you can prove that these filters do not filter and can cause engine damage, post it. And I'm talking proof that the filters fail or do not work. Not because some kid bought a kit off ebay and didn't install it right. Personally, I don't think such proof exists.

Hey guys, I'm going to get some stuff from 1stsubaruparts.com to fix some things on the scoobie. There is no cupholder in it right now. On the website they list the cupholder and they also list a cupholder case. Am I going to need both of these to put a new cupholder in? Keep in mind I have nothing but an empty hole where it is supposed to go.

I just swapped a single din radio into my 99 OBW. It wasn't too terribly difficult. You will need a wiring harness (can get at crutchfield) and if you want they can send you a thing to put in a pocket like other's have said. If you have a pocket already, you should be able to reuse it. Match up the wires on the harness with the wires on the back of the new radio. I just stripped them and connected them with butt connectors. Take your old radio out, and take off the factory brackets. Make note of where they were installed on the stock radio. This will help when you put the aftermarket in. Attatch the factory brackets to the aftermarket radio. You can also install the pocket at this point if you want/have one. Hook up the wiring harness that you connected to the new radio into the wiring harness left in the car and hook up your antenna. May need to get an antenna extender for this. Slide the radio in and put everything back together as it was. This wasn't too hard for me to do. Took about 2 hours or so. The hardest part was trying to get that stupid trim panel piece back in with the cigarette lighter.

He's not much of a chewer so I'm not too worried about him destroying fabric. I'm not worried about a few nose prints either. Nothing a little windex won't take care of. It would be nice if I could just add in a barrier that I don't have to take out evertime I want to put the backseat down or use the cargo cover. I may just save up and get the Subaru one as 99OBW suggested. Thanks for the idea though.

Need recomendations on a pet barrier for my 99 OBW. I have seen the one on 1stsubaruparts.com and was wondering if anyone has it and likes it. Does it use the same mount points as the cargo cover? I would be nice to keep that and have teh dog barrier. Are there any aftermarket ones that are decent??

Has anyone actually taken out a broken speedo head and figured out what causes them to go bad?? It would be nice if it was something as simple as a solder connection comming apart. I'm willing to pay the 100 bucks to get a new one but i'm more willing to fix one that's broken for much cheaper I found alot of posts where people have replaced them but never any where people have actually repaired the faulty one.

Hey guys, Looking to replace the speedo head on my 99 OBW. Anyone know what years are interchangeable? I've seen a couple on ebay recently. The clusters don't look the same on some of the older years however the speedometers do. So i'm wondering if I could buy a cluster and just yank the speedo head out of it. Thanks

Excellent just figured I'd check. Have you guys ever heard that flushing a tranny if it has XXX amount of miles on it can be bad??? A guy told me that today at work. I don't see how leaving old, contaminated fluid can better than replacing some of it with clean, new fluid. I'll also make sure I pull the check plug first. Be good to see if the fluid level was right before I drained it anyway.
