All the '06's already have the most current reflash...
You say your Spec-B has just over 1,000 miles? Give it to your first oil chamge (3,000 miles) and see if it has gone away...also make sure you are using at least 91 octane...higher if it's available near you.
-
I've got the Subaru OEM hitch for the '05/'06 Outback Wagon on my wife's Legacy 2.5i Wagon...it fits fine and the wiring connector is right where it should be...
The hitch is P/N: L101SAG000, just tell the dealer it's for your "Outback"

Well I decided to go ahead and freshen the spare motor as it's been a few weeks and the coolant and oil in the original motor are pretty well mixed...I'd rather not take any chances.
My spare motor has approx. 130k on it and came out of a car maintained at the local dealer for all of it's life, every Subaru recomended service was done. The car it was in was totalled in an accident but had no engine compartment intrusion.
I started on it last weekend, got the following done on Saturday:
Head Gaskets
Intake Manifold Gaskets
Valve Cover Gaskets & Grommets
Right Rear Cam O-ring
Rear seperator plate re-sealed
Rear Main Seal
Rear Wrist pin access cover o-ring
Oil Fill O-ring
Cam Seals
Oil pump reseal
Crank Seal
Resealed Oil Pan
Water Pump & Gasket
Thermostat & Gasket
Water Pump By-pass hose
Spark plugs
Oil Filter
Crush Ring
I'm waiting on a right rear timing cover (cracked) and one of the timing belt idler pulleys (noisey bearing) before I can get the timing belt and covers all installed and then it will be ready to drop in. Guess I'll start pulling the old one out this week to get it ready to go...
...I had forgotton how much fun engine work could be!

Subaru's official oil consumption info
Oil ConsumptionAn engine requires constant lubrication to reduce friction and heat and will consume some of the lubricant during normal operation. Oil consumption at a rate of 1 quart or more per 1,000 miles of usage may be considered unusual and should be investigated. Vehicles using less than 1 quart in 1,000 miles is considered normal and no repair or further investigation is required.
NOTE: Unless engine damage is evident, internal oil consumption testing or related repairs should not be performed until a new vehicle has been driven 3,000 miles.
Oil consumption is dependent on vehicle usage and may be at a rate higher than 1 quart per 1,000 miles prior to the first recommended oil change or during periods of continued high engine speed operation. Oil consumption may be excessive if the oil is not changed as recommended by the manufacturer. Therefore, ensure that the maintenance records for the vehicle indicate proper maintenance has been performed. If the vehicle has been properly maintained and oil consumption appears to be excessive, proceed as follows:
1. Check the engine carefully for oil leaks at all joining surfaces, gaskets and seals, on top and underneath the engine. Repair any leaks first, making sure that the location of the leak is identified and all oil residue is removed. If no leaks are found, go to step 2.
2. Perform a cylinder leak down test and record findings on the back of the hard copy. Perform appropriate repairs based on the results of the test.

I was assuming the poster was looking for info on installing a 120V outlet, not 12v "cigarette" plug... I didn't even know that the 120v outlet was an option.
Cool website Opie!

Oh...I thought that was a typo!

Hi, I have a 2.2l 99 Legacy with 14 inch alloy wheels. I bought 16 inch rims from an 03 Imprezza WRX. I have seem pics on the board here where people have put these exact rims on my generation of Legacy. I'm pretty sure the rim will physically fit, but my questions is about rotors. I need new rotors and an not sure which application to get. Looks like OEM and Brembo has a different part # for 14 inch wheels or 15 inch wheels. Would I get the rotors for the 15 inch? Lastly, if the total size of the tire is larger, will my speedometer be effected? Any advice would be greatly appriciated.
If the car originally came with 14" wheels you should get the rotors for the 14" wheels.
If the tire size diameter changes it will affect your speedometer/odometer, larger diameter will make the speedometer/odometer read lower, if the diamter is smaller, your speedometer/odometer will read higher. But the change should be very negligible unless your making a radical tire size change.

They are easy to put in, look HERE for install instructions.

Yes, I do, but I've since stopped using the cell phone charger and the fuse still blows. If I have bent the ears in the 12v outlet, should I just try and straighten them by bending them back?
Thanks.
We see that problem fairly often, it seems some cell phone chargers deform the outlets and cause a short. I'd unplug the 12v outlet harness and see if the fuse blows or not, if it doesn't you know the outlet is problem.
-
Do you use a cell phone charger in the 12v outlet that correlates to the fuse blowing?
-
If Jiffy lube just worked on it and she is on the way home check to see if the oil is way overfilled and the tranny is empty.
+1
Typical Jiffy Lube service...

If you guys pull the plug wires off the coil are the coil contacts corroded....or not shiney...thinking you might have a coil going bad...

See my similar post: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50262
When all of the other cooling system work was done the car passed the gasses test...now it doesn't.
Bet your Forester doesn't anymore either.
Seems that once a Subaru is overheated it weakens the head gaskets and sooner or later you'll need to do them...at least the seem easy enough to do on SOHC motors...
-
...and the winner is....Head Gasket(s)!
I'm either going to install new Head Gaskets on this motor...or pull it out and install the "extra" 1.8L I have...probably take the same amount of time for either option...
What do you guys think...
Rebuild HG motor...
Freshen "Spare" motor and install...

The Spec C you are referring to on the Subaru Vehicle Inquiry Sheet refers to the engine specifications your car was built for. FHI uses the C code for turbocharged vehicle's, F code for normally aspirated vehicles. Yours is a standard USDM STi with some after-sale modifications.
-
you put all those new parts on it and didn't spent the extra $6 on a new rad. cap???? shame shame shame... :-\ Go buy a cap and tell us what happens....
Welcome too by the way....
LOL, I'm a cheap bastard...
actually I figured the radiator would come with a cap but didn't, so I just re-used the original one!
Off to Advance!
-
Does it have A/C? Power Windows? Locks?
If so, it is not a Spec C
What's the last 8 digits of the VIN, I can run it...
-
1995 Impreza 1.8L Automatic, 103,000 miles
After driving for approximately 30 minutes coolant begins to overflow out of the radiator overflow bottle.
Car has original radiator cap
Car has new radiator, new thermostat, new water pump & hoses
Do I have a bad radiator cap....or a head gasket problem?
Car does not overheat, it just overflows coolant...
I'll be pressure & gasses testing it tomorrow to be sure, but wondered what you guys think the more likely cause is...
Wish I could post a poll...

Sounds like the Cam Seals, quite common on Subaru's. The seals themselves are cheap, not sure about the cost to install them though.

Do you have any other info on this, links, etc., this is the first I've heard of it being discontinued.

Cranking but not starting usually means you are missing one of two things, fuel or spark.
Are you getting spark to the spark plugs? If not the coil pack might have gone bad, just as a bad plug or bad plug wire could also cause this. Has the fuel filter been changed recently as it could be clogged, or the fuel pump could have gone bad.
Hope this helps!

I've got a 2.5i wagon that now has just about 30k on it, always used 5w-30 here in Florida with no problems. It's a great workhorse.
