  1. You know I don't know if this is a real problem or not - but this makes me chuckle...... how many vehicles with this "problem" were sold between the 2005 and 2009 model year? and over 100 people have reported this issue! So it must be real! Too bad this isn't a category in the Consumer Reports ratings!
  2. I just looked up the OEM Sirius unit and the install looks super easy. I may install it for my cousin on her 2008 - but I think I'm keeping my setup.
  3. $389 for the factory kit.....vs $35 for mounting kit and wiring harness..... I don't think a 2 year old alpine head unit I bought for $200 would bring in much now.
  4. The instructions are on Pac's website. And Scooby is right. Looks like programming is.......well.... a PITA!
  5. well thanks to everyone - and Subaru for making it MUCH easier to get into the dash (than earlier models) I present my finished project: Now, I lost my steering wheel controls - which I expected. Any thoughts on getting them back? If I have to redo the wiring harness I may scream. LOL but I'd do it
  6. yeah, 2" receiver as opposed to 1 1/4. My bike rack is a Thule T2 - designed for a 2" opening. The part that makes me nervous is this: Also, all three say "Exhaust must be temporarily lowered for installation, Minor heat shield modification may be required." Although I'm not doing it myself - I'd get help......
  7. Ok some of you asked for pics - I promise they are coming but I haven't been home in the daylight - so watch for tomorrow..... Anyway I need to put a 2" hitch on so I can cart around my bicycles with my Thule T2 Are the DIYers safe? Curt, Hidden Hitch or Draw Tite? http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2010_Subaru_Outback+Wagon.htm?style=0&t1=&so=dr!ps!to!ma!aw!tp!c1!c2!c3!c4!c5!c6!c72!c8!c9&h= Here's a teaser pic: on the left is my husband's '04 next to my '10
  8. someone on a sirius board found me the kit http://www.installer.com/cars/by_car.php?carid=8101 but I gotta admit I'm a little nervous cracking open the dash on my brand new car - has anyone opened up a 2010 and have helpful tips? ie: on my husband's 04. I opened it up and put in the fm direct connect. I NEVER would have seen the upside down hidden screws in the ash tray except that I had the crutchfield instructions and they point them out.
  9. HI ALL! I pulled the trigger on a 2010 2.5i (thanks for those who helped me decide in another thread). Anywho, I took my alpine headunit and sirius tuner out of my pathfinder and Crutchfield tells me there is no mount for the 2010 Outback (yet). So I'm open to suggestions - other than having Subaru install the built in for $550. thanks
  10. on all my cars I've always just done oil change every 3-4k, rotate the tires every other oil change and I have done the big interval maintenaces - 30, 60, 90, 120K. and **Knock on wood** I've never had a warranty item denied for "lack of recommended maintenance."
  11. I called them. The salesman said they have no 6cyl and they can't get them in. He said they have open orders that he can't fill and it's "terrible." so overall I guess the 6 is really off the table.
  12. well I'm good with the ground clearance issue - it's really the power of the 4 vs 6. There are no 6s in CT to even drive. The salesman said they can't get any because they are not making as many because people are buying the 4s.
  13. thanks I'm driving everyone crazy with opinions and only 1 person is on the fence - everyone else says GO FOR IT!
  14. My husband has an 04 outback (6cyl) and I have a Pathfinder. I'm thinking about making the leap to the 4cyl outback in favor of much better gas mileage and awd (over part time 4wd). I'm afraid that I will miss the v6 - what do you think? I mean I know I don't NEEEEEED it. I've driven suvs since 1999 with my first Ford Explorer. I test drove it today and of course there is a difference but I was surprised at how well it is geared. FYI We live in CT but travel to southern VT frequently during the winter. My office is 34 miles SOUTH of where I live so obviously I put on a lot of miles.... thanks for your opinions!
  15. Our 2004 Outback has had a busted fog light for years which we never fixed because the dealer quoted us some outrageous price to fix. I recently had to replace the tail light on my Pathfinder and realized that it's really kinda easy.... So I can find the part locally for a decent price....now... is it easy to replace (assuming I can get under there.....but I'm short LOL) THANKS!
  16. I know squeaking in and of itself is not an indication of worn brakes - but does anyone else have "squeakers?" I know it's not the squealers that indicate they need to be replaced. This car has over 100K miles on it and we've never had this problem until now. The dealer says the brakes are fine. thanks
  17. thanks - I had done a search and didn't come up with that one! I ended up going with the bfg traction t/a. If money grew on trees, I'd get the dedicated snow tires for sure. thanks again!
  18. Nearly 3 years ago we needed new tires for our 2004 Outback wagon and you helped me decide http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=294159#post294159 can you help again please? Same story - mostly highway driving, lots of trips to ski country in the winter. THANKS!
