Hello everyone, my is tom i am new to subarus I just bought a 1996 suburu legacy outback in very good condition body is mint you can tell this car was taken care of. well my question is at night when i turn on the lights my heater controls and my shifter selector does not light up could this be a fuse because all the instrument panel lights are on except heater controls and shifter selector. I know this isnt that big of a deal but if it an easy fix I would like to know i like everything working. it has a automatic tranny, 2.5 engine, and it has 168,000 miles on it. if you need anymore info just let me know. sincerely yours tom

hi there , i just bought it from the dealer runs great no engine light on but when i first drove it there was a check engine light on the dealer said they found a misfire on it replaced wires and spark plugs.and told me it was fine. i drive around town alot but i baby it. well when i first pick it up from deealer it was empty low fuel light was on so i filled it up with super it took 13.5 gallons now im under 1/4 tank and ive gone 154 miles.

hi there, I JUST BOUGHT A 1996 OUTBACK WAGON IT DIDNT COME WITH A OWNERS MANUAL. I NOTICE THAT ON THE SHIFTER IT HAS PARK-REVERSE-NUETRAL-DRIVE-3-2-1 MY QUESTION IS WHEN DRIVING AROUND TOWN DO I DRIVE IN D OR 3. DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY INFO ON THIS SUBARU THAT I SHOULD LOOK AT OR HAVE CHECKED OUT. I DO SMELL A FAINT ANTIFREEZE WHEN I GO BY CAR AFTER DRIVING BUT WHEN I LOOK UNDER THE HOOD I CANT FIND ANY SIGNS OF A LEAK IS THIS NORMAL. IM JUST LOOKING FOR ANY INFO ON KNOWN PROMBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL. IT HAS A 2.5 LITER - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 166,000 miles SINCERELY YOURS NEWBE SUBE

hi my name is tom i tried to use my 4 wheel drive the other day and its not working usually when i push in the button on the shifter the light comes on but when i push it now it doent come on is there a fuse for this button if there is where is it. oh yeah during the fall sometimes the 4wd light would flash on and off like flickering if you will i dont know if it means anything but now its not working so maybe it does please help. thomas 91 subaru loyale wagon 1.8 engine 5 speed manual trannny

1991 SUBARU LOYALE STATION WAGON 1.8 ENGINE NON TURBO

when shifting the gears it bucks after the shift . 2nd gear is the worst when shifting into 2nd it bucks the hardest have any clue what it could be causing it . now if i shift to 2nd at 2000 rpms and let out the real slow it wont do it . please help im a newbie oh yeah i almost forgot sometimes it wont shift into 1st unless i push the clutch in and give it a little gas wierd sometimes it pops out of 1st too.

my 91 loyale is running rough also my check engine keeps coming on about 2 min after driving then every time i start it its not on only after 2 min of driving also i have a plug in the # 4 of the block that is bigger than the rest of the spark plugs like someone broke one before and retapped it so you have to use a bigger plug i dont know if this could mean anything but i thought i would mention it. also when i am at idle my oil pressure is almost 0 but when i am driving it . the pressure goes to 40 is this normal on a 5 speed manual transmissions.and could it have anything to do with rough idle or check engine light coming on after 2 min of driving.

no because i put the old one back in just to try it and it still wouldnt start it getting good spark

i gave my car a tune up new spark plugs wires, cap, rotor. when i finished installing all the parts the car wouldnt start . so then i took the cap back off and i noticed inside the cap was alot of metal chips it looked like the rotor was rubing along the inside of the cap and cut through 2 of the metal studs almost all the way through. so i change the cap with the old one but it still wont start. could the timing be a factor its getting gas, has good spark, it cranks over but it wont start. please help

do you know the fire order on the block ?

yes i tried your test and i do have spark on all wires but it still wont start

you dont have a piture of fire order do you or can you explain fire order in more detail

i was giving my car its first tuneup well that was a big mistake. when i pulled the last spark plug out i noticed that the plug was different from the others it was bigger than the other ones i thought i was losing it but sure enough it was. i came to conclusion that someone must have broke a plug before and drilled it out and tap it with new threads also i forgot to tell you that when i pulled that last plug there was some kind of rubber on it like gasket sealer maybe so i put the old plug back in but the car wont start. can anyone shed any light on this promblem please help.
