  1. on my old legacy GT the allen key hole was in control switch housing. My sunroof controls were mounted on the headliner. If I popped off the cover I could see the motor/mechanism and right there was an allen key hole. When my sunroof stopped closing it was the result of a corroded switch from moisture. I took the switch apart and cleaned the contacts and put it back together and it worked for a couple months.
  2. So I changed the plugs. 1 of them had a bunch of oil on the plug connector. Is that bad? What can cause this?
  3. non-turbo. I got NGK from the dealer for the saabaru. I want to do the 2 legacy's this afternoon and the dealer is closed. Will Advance or Autozone carry the right NGK plugs for a legacy? Platinum?
  4. I actually have 3 subaru's that I about to replace plugs on. 1) 99 Legacy GT 160K miles 2) 01 Legacy L 155K miles 3) 05 Saabaru 9-2x Linear (Impreza 2.5) 103K miles What plugs do you guys recommend using? Also, how often should I do plug wires and what should I get for wires?
  5. Thanks for the help guys. I think we are all set. We attached the control arm and used a large pry bar and got the thing pulled out. We installed the new one and put everything back together and it seems to work OK. The clunk noise is gone. Thanks!
  6. So we drilled out the pinch bolt. We damaged the threads so we just drilled it clean. We will either re-tap or put a bolt through and put a nut and lock washer on the other side. We used a picklefork and got the ball joint free of the control arm. Now we can't get the ball joint out of the knuckle. I am working on prying open the knuckle but it doesn't seem to move much. Is there a good trick to get the thing out?
  7. So we went forward assuming it was the ball joint. We got a MOOG one from the local auto parts place. We jacked up the car, took the nut off under the LCA. I broke the pinch bolt trying to remove it. I am working on drilling it out. Does anyone know what size bolt that is and where I could get a replacement?
  8. I am helping my brother with an issue on a 99 Legacy GT. There is clunk noise on the passenger front side. It happens on bumps but also on turns and acceleration. It is a single clunk. We jacked up the car and he wiggled the tire while I looked under. The lower ball joint was kind of shifting side to side which I thought wasn't right. Could that be our issue?
  9. So the window is working again. I don't think I went about it the right way but it is set. I couldn't get to the motor or the bracket really so I had to remove almost every bolt on every track related to the window. That allowed me to twist and manuever the motor out of the door through an opening in the bottrom of he door so I could get at the screws that connect the motor to the bracket. Once exposed I could remove the motor assy by removing 3 screws. I bolted on the one I got from the junk yard and pushed and twisted the assembly back into the door. After putting all of the screws back in and the window back on the tracks it all seems to work. I still don't believe I did it correct. No way swapping a window motor should require removing 12+ screws and bolts, and then prying the motor out of the door. Thanks for all the help
  10. If you can find some info that would be great. I had a Haynes manual from my 97 legacy but I gave it to my brother who has a 95. The guy at the junkyard said something like "unbolt the window and lift it up and the motor will swing over where you can reach it". If the FSM has better instructions and you could send me them it would be sweet.
  11. So I found a local junkyard with one that will sell a motor for $35 and i am going to pick it up tomorrow. Now I just need to figure out how to get the old one out.
  12. I plugged a motor from my 97 directly to the wire in the door from the 01. The motor worked fine. It is one of 3 possible things at this point as far as I can tell. 1) the motor really is bad. 2) the 8" of wire between the connection and the motor is bad. 3) There is something bound or frozen so the motor can't move the window in the 01. I very much doubt #3 because it seems I would hear the motor clicking or winding or something. How would I measure the voltage at the actual motor? I am going to take some pictures tonight and post them to see if that might help.
  13. I have a window motor from the 97 legacy. Anyone know if they are the same part or exchangeable? If not I am going to hit up a junk yard or something. Dealership said $400+ for the part plus labor. So I need to remove the 3 bolts and I can pull the motor out? How do you get to the three bolts?
  14. I checked the voltage and it seemed to work right. I swapped switches with the rear and the rear worked fine and the front still didn't work. I have a door left from my 97 GT so I pulled that out and plugged the power from the 01 into the motor from the 97 and it worked. That means it is the motor I guess. How do I get the motor out? Has anyone done this?
  15. So I pulled the drivers side switch set. It took considerable prying to pop off the switch actuator from the body. There was a white plastic tip on the bottom of the actuator that was spring loaded. Nothing looked burnt or corroded but I cleaned it a bit. Should I have taken the switch apart further? I put it back together and tried it and still didn't work. I repeated that for the passenger side and still nothing. I have now pulled the door card from the passenger side and nothing looks wrong or out of place.
  16. So I am now home and I have done a little investigation. It appears the window is further down than normal. On these cars there is a little of the window showing even when it is at it's lowest point. This winow isn't showing any glass and is a little below the edge of the weather stripping. I don't know if that makes a difference but it seem less likely to be the switch or motor in that case to me.
  17. My wife just called and told me when she got home from work her passenger side window won't roll back up. She has an 01 Legacy L. It went down no problem but won't come up. All other windows work fine. She tried the drivers door switch and the switch on the actual door and nothing happens. What are the likely causes? I assume it isn't a switch issue because neither worked. What else would cause it? Fuse? Motor? Wiring? Has anyone else had this issue? My brother has a 95 and I had a 97 for TONS of miles and never had a single window problem.
  18. I thought I had used the NGK plugs but I did not. That was before my days on this site so I was uniformed. I had used Bosch Platinums. When I went to change them they were in pretty bad shape. It looked like there was a little rust around the base of the ceramic portion of the plug. Since the change of the plugs and wires we have had 2 day of normal operation. The check engine light has also gone off.
  19. My wife has a 2001 Legacy L with 120K miles. For the last couple weeks when she has gone to accelerate the car has hesitated a bit. I was driving it earlier this week and I went to floor it to merge onto the highway and got a loud noise and a big hesitation. The car then drove normally. My wife said a couple days later the check engine light went on and off a few times. We took it to autozone and they said it had a cyl 2 misfire. I did the plugs at around 90K but didn't do the wires. At 102K we had the head gasket, and timing belt done. What is likely the cause of the misfire? From doing a search here it seems that plug wires might be the cause.
  20. Sweet. Thanks! Any pointers in how to get the old radio out and the new one in. I haven't changed a stereo in years and can't rememeber the last time I did. Do I need a special tool or anything?
  21. I just picked up a 6 disc changer from an 05 Baja sport that I was hoping ot swap into my wife's 01 legacy L. Any idea what I would run into for connection issues? I only want to do it if it is easy. She had best buy put in a sony single disc a few years ago but she doesn't like it. Ideally I would like to pull out the sony, remove a harness adapter, and plug what is left into the back of the Baja stereo.
  22. OK well I guess I will give it a try and let you guys know. I actually have 14" steal from a 99 impreza, 15" steal from an 01 Leg L, 16" Alloy from a 97 LGT, and 16" from alloy from an 05 Imp. I should just jack them up and try them out. If I only had some 15" outback or impreza alloys I could really complete the test.
  23. My brother just bought a 99 Legacy GT and I have some 14" steal wheels with snow tires mounted from a 99 Impreza L. I know the 5X100 Lug pattern will fit but can I use the 14" rims with the legacy GT brakes?
  24. thanks guys. The 15208AA100 is the one I have and I had bought 6 for my saab 92-x. I just wanted to make sure I could also use it on the 01 legacy. I think when I went to the dealership and asked for a filter for the 01 legacy they gave me the same 15208AA100 filter.
