  1. Hi, I am in the process of purchasing my 5th subaru in the last six years, I have had a FWD 92 Legacy, a 93 Loyale Wagon, a 93 Legacy turbo ( auto ) and currently drive a 98 Outback Limited. I am however upset that my outback doesn't satisfy me as much as my 93 legacy turbo and have located a 92 Legacy turbo ( also auto ) but would like to convert it to a 5 speed. What parts and lavbour would be required to convert such for my edification? The car I am looking at is relatively nice (no rust ) with 232K kilometers ( 160K miles ) and sold by a subaru dealer however before finalising I would like to know what I am getting myslef into. Thanks!
  2. Hi, I am having quite a challenge trying to figure out why my Outback idles between 250 and 400RPM all the time, it's quite close to stall speed and has a habit of hesitating on start ( however this issue may be due to my rear calipers which are very tired and tend to stick ). I had the air intake checked out and cleaned, my computer has no codes ( and has had none since I have had the car ). This is my fourth subaru and my first one to tick me off, I never should have parted with my trusted old 92 Legacy L FWD or my 93 Legacy Turbo. Also is there a way to lock the differential?, this is the only subaru where I have spun out on corners in winter driving since the rear wheel differential only activates after about 2 seconds...2 seconds too late because I span out. Hope the new ones are better if not I will part off my Outback for an older 94 Legacy. There are also some strange electircal issues such as door locks that work one day and not the next, this goes the same for the remote. Does anyone have an idea where the problem lies for my idle problem or any others in that matter? Thanks for your kind attention
  3. Sounds familiar, I would also have a similar problem with my 93 Legacy L, when my tank was at less than 25% fuel load, the car would hesitate when cornering hard, I assumed it had to do with the fuel pump. have you attempted to check fuel level in your tank when you corner?
  4. Many thanks! This message board has a lot more and better advice than the dealers! Have a nice week end. Needcoin
  5. Has anyone ever attempted to simplify the front wheel drive option accessibility to an Outback? I am one of the old-timers who has lived and loved the "push button" FWD to 4WD option an my previous and now deceased Loyale and got a gerat deal on a 98 Outback limited with only 45000 certified miles. After driving the car consistently my greatest decpetion on the outback is the fact that it is a "permanent"all wheel drive, guess Subaru wanted to make the process idiotproof and not offer a manual control which must be activated by the driver...After looking through the instruction manual I found the Front wheel drive option which required to add a fuse under the hood next to the wiper motors. I would assume that the system operates similarly with the older systems however I wonder if this option could be used on a regular basis and also has anyone looked into the possiblity of installing a FWD push button in the console under the instrument cluster by intercepting the feed wire that activates and deactivates the all-wheel drive system? I did not check with a Subaru dealer to ask if they have already done this for clients so this may already exist but I am only starting to inquire in hopes that this can be done, will help me save a lot of fuel for summer driving if so... Best Regards, Needcoin
  6. I wonder if anyone can help me on this one, I own a 1993 Loyale wagon bought in Canada and have had some problems recently as per such : Noisy lifters coming from cylinder # 4. The problem was recently corrected with the replacement of the oil pump, problem solved. I however have an issue since the car was starting to overheat, problem I assumed was due to the oil pump going bad, I had my mechanics replace the oil pump and the the water pump ( with new OEM parts ) however the engine is overheating ( way more than it was with the old water pump ), I checked the rad and found that the rad sensor was not plugged so I plugged it in but no change. The rad is not hot, the fan is not turning and there is no pressure in the top rad hose going to the engine, could this be due to a defective water pump or would it be a problem of another nature?
