January 30, 200422 yr on my 89 4x4 automatic wagon, it ran awesome till it got really cold out. now it wont idel when its cold. if it does it will run at about 600 rpm till it warms up a little then cough and take off ideling normal. any suggestions? matt
January 30, 200422 yr Author only thing, if it were the temp sensor wouldnt it have a hard time starting? that valve dealy i sprayed some carb cleaner down there. i might have to look for another one and try that. it sucks when its this cold to sit int he car to let it warm up matt
January 30, 200422 yr I had the wiring go bad to the IAC - would not idle unless you held your foot on it until it warmed up, and would die at stops sometimes. Had to run a new line from the connector at the driver's fender to the valve. Test everything!
January 30, 200422 yr Author now that sounds just like my problem, with out stalling at stop signs, today it started to go crazy at like 3500 rpm so i took out a huge wrench and beat that idel control valve and it started to come down to normal. maybe that thing is bad? ill test some stuff tomorrow after work thanks matt
January 31, 200422 yr Man, if you beat me like that, I'd be good too! Wiggle your connectors when you are testing things - mine was somewhat intermittent. I fixed connections at both ends before just saying f- it and putting in the new wire.
January 31, 200422 yr Not to be stupid, but could it have something to do with the Air Control Valve not opening when you are cold starting and also idling? If I have my ideas and concepts wrong, please correct me. Luke
January 31, 200422 yr Author fixed her.... pulled off the hose to that idel control vavle and sprayed carb spray down it as i was revving it up. works awesome now. thanks all for your help matt
