2.5 to 2.2 intake swap

Here's the deal: I'm about to swap a 98 ob to 2.2 phase 1 engine.

Can I keep the 2.5 intake and everything else and swap only the engine itself?

P.S. I don't care about having to change the exhaust manifolds

Thanks a bunch.

Thank you. I've read many of your posts grossgary, very useful so far.

I still wonder if I can get a 97 or 98 2.2 engine and then go buy a 95 intake manifold?

It's just a matter of having more options and they're cheaper and easier to find in my area.

Thanks for help everybody

your question is confusing.

why would you need a 95 intake if you have a 97/98 engine? just use the entire 96,97,98 engine?

again, this is all covered, sounds like you're confused about something. just make sure any engine you get has EGR.

if you get a non-EGR engine, just putting an EGR intake (95 for instance) won't sovle the problem because the EGR is plumbed into the engine (Head). so unless you want to do a head job (swap out an EGR equipped head), doubt you'll want to do that.

Use the 2.2 Intake, but swap the wiring harness from the 2.5 onto it.

Don't worry about the EGR. Just grab the solenoid for it off the 2.5 intake with the harness. leave the solenoids electrical connector plugged in, but dont hook the vac lines up to anything.

The solenoid being there should be enough to keep the CEL from coming on.

exhaust can be re-used. intake cannot. as a rule of thumb.....intake manifold has to match the heads.

98 2.5 = dual port exhaust.

95+ 2.2 = single port exhaust. (except Brightons? I got 2, 96 Brightons in the shop back to back, and they both had dual port 2.2s:confused:)

So depending on the exact year and model of the donor engine, he may need a single port exhaust.
