usmb newbie, engine electrical question

Featured Replies

hey Ya'll, I'm Jared from Washington. got a 84 gl 2 door, 1.8l 5 spd with 150,000 on it. engine turns over but won't start. checked the ecu under the ash and it's flashing a ignition pulse code.......any ideas? Ignition modual checked fine with ohm meter, coil as well, new plugs and wires. Got it to run once when i first got it, but not since...........help please, car is in great shape but that don't matter if i can't drive it.........Thanks, Jared

The ECU is a red herring - they won't prevent the engine from running - they are only there for feedback mixture control.

On an EA81, you need a few things:

1. Air

2. Fuel

3. Spark

4. Compression

5. Ignition timing

Which one don't you have?

spark.........in my mind I believe it's the module.........but i don't want to sttart throwing money at it trying to find the problem..........is there another way to check the module?

If you have power at the coil and the coil ohm's out good (both windings), then it's probably the module. Ask in the wanted forum - I'm sure there's a lot of folks with spare's.
