HELP! I need a new motor

Featured Replies

I have a 96 legacy outback wagon. rotational bearings (rod or main) are likely fouled thus I think an engine replacement is in order. I understand that low mileage (20 - 50K) used engines are available in the western USA from japan really cheap.

does anyone know where I might order a 1996 2.5 liter or comperable motor?

does anyone have a link to a motor exchange Biz?

I am stranded on I80 in Nevada. I want a motor cheap and fast.

please help. :-\

check junk yards and buy one from the closest you can find. i wouldn't worry with low mileage JDM stuff, they're just as prone to head gasket and bearing issues as anything locally, i wouldn't pay premium for them.

i'll ship you one for $1,500.

I have a 96 2.5 engine. It runs and sounds fine has 170K miles. Looks like it has the newest head gaskets in it, although I didn't install them. I want $700, with shipping, it would likely be around $1100. I could ship tuesday if paid today or tomorrow.

You are a good candidate for a 1995 2.2 transplant. Slips right in. Look it up in the forum. Lots of information on the swap. They are less money and plenty available. A better engine many say. I have done a couple and they have gone well.
