Check engine codes?

Featured Replies

I have a 1991 loyale 1.8 and was wondering how to check for codes? My CEL turns on when it warms up and seems to be slower as soon as it turns on, any help would be awesome, Thanks

Remove the kick-panel under the driver's side of the dash. Drive the car till the lamp comes on and then read the codes flashed from the ECU's red LED.

Probably O2 sensor, EGR/EVAP purge solenoid code's......

Thank you, i have heard alot of similar problems but it is always when their cars are cold,(mine is warmed up then it does it)wierd huh?

O2 sensor's only begin reporting when they have reached operating temp so the ECU will wait for a signal and if one never comes or it's way out of range.... up pops the code. Also if the coolant sensor should fail and only report that the engine is cold - that would cause a similar effect. Although they usually fail hot - telling the ECU the engine is warm when it is not.

i cant seem to find the led light that flashs the codes, is there anymore detail you could advise? Thanks

The big silver box (~8"x6"x2") bolted to the steering column. You have to remove the kick panel to see it. The LED is seen through a window in the side of the box.

I found out it was code 34 witch is the EGR solenoid. cant find a solenoid tho:mad:

Replace the solenoid with a 33 Ohm, 5 watt resistor. That will permanently fix the problem.

You don't need the EGR solenoid.
