November 16, 200916 yr Hello there, I need a bit of help about waring diagram of an alternator on a EA81. This alternator goes in a plane. My friend told my that is a Subaru Motor. He give me all the service manual of the plane and It confirm that is a Subaru motor. What I need is I'm not sure the Alternator is dead. When I uplug the big cable ( batt ) the one going to the battery there is 11.5 volts when motor is iddle and 11.45v when is at 3200rpm. Seem to work but not a lot of power to charge the battery. There is 2 other cable going on the alternator. 2 white wire. the 2 wire goes in the dash for a lamp to tell that the Alternator work well.. and one of the cable is loop back to the ( batt ) plug on the alternator Any schematic diagram or drawing ? thanks have a great day Carloz
November 16, 200916 yr I don't have any diagrams but you should be getting more voltage from the alternator to charge the battery properly. Around 12.5v to 13.5 is pretty normal for charging.
November 16, 200916 yr didnt the ea81s have an external regulator ??? do you have pics of the alt. ??
November 16, 200916 yr Early EA81's were externally regulated, but the later ones were internal. The 2 alternators in question are interchangeable. 11.45 @ 3200 indicates a problem. SInce this is an aircraft application, I'll bet that it it internally regulated. That means there's a dead alternator. Time for a new alt. Maybe time for an upgrade, too.
November 16, 200916 yr The early internally regulated alternator has a heavy wire with a ring terminal going back to the positive battery terminal and a plastic "T" shaped receptacle which takes a two wire terminal plug. Almost all of these are interchangeable; the earlier versions are 55A and the later ones are 60A. I have a few of these if you need one; I'd send you a known working one off my Brat to be sure you get a working one.
November 16, 200916 yr Author Hello everyone thnaks for your help I can have picture next time I will be there. Also I talk to the owner of the plane and It seem that there is some lamp in the dash that need to be check. ???
