November 26, 200916 yr I am about to purchase a '79 Brat that has a few problems but I believe it is a good deal. The only current problems I can see are a cracked cv boot, the guy put a new fuel pump on it that is set at 9psi, he said the factory one is about 3-4psi, so the car dies sometimes when coming to a stop. I believe that these problems will be pretty simple to fix, but let me hear what you guys think. I also would like to know about performance parts and the jumps seats (does any one have some or know someone who does??) thanks shane
November 26, 200916 yr Any pictures? This is not a performance vehicle so don't expect to find much for it. I may be able to help with the seats. I just have to see where I am at with my new 78 Brat project on when I get it on Monday. Richard
November 26, 200916 yr Author I will have pics up tomorrow after I purchase it (if it passes smog). And im not really looking for a race car just some parts to make it run more solid, as it will need some parts replaced. I also have a Hanes manuel that I bought for my '84 GL and I think it will work for the '79 Brat but it says it only goes to 1980, will it work???
November 26, 200916 yr No you will need another manual for it. The Brat has the 1600 or EA-71 engine in it with a single range 4 speed. The 84 wagon has the 1800 or EA-81 engine and either a dual range 4 speed or 3 speed auto. Don't worry if you have any questions you will almost always be able to find the answers here. Good luck. November 30, 200916 yr Author here it is, it was $700, I'll post more pics of the interior and the engine, but i bought it from some meth head so there are some crazy things going on with it haha.
December 1, 200916 yr Author huh i cant seem to get the pictures to work, but I was wondering if it would be fine to take the fuel pump from the 84 GL and switch it with the Brat???
December 4, 200916 yr Author I think im gonna rename this post " the brat from hell" haha. So I just came across a new problem, the dam starter went out, I was wondering if I could use the one From the GL?? and also I was wondering what parts I could use from the GL to go on the Brat. thanks guys hopefully I can get this piece running haha I need a reliable car!!!! shane
December 4, 200916 yr The starter is different as is pretty much everything off your GL. You are going to need to find a parts car or people on the board here will be able to help you with parts.
December 6, 200916 yr Author But it would be fine to take the radiator out of the GL and put it in the Brat right??
December 6, 200916 yr It's not the same size. You may be able to modify it to fit. I know your 84 radiator is bigger. Why don't you just give me your Brat and I will use it for my new 78 Brat:grin: Richard

December 6, 200916 yr You can take the heater core out of the GL but it won't fit your 79 Brat. Not even close to the same style.
December 7, 200916 yr Author ok ya i was just making sure what I can rip out. It just snowed at my house, so glad I got the car running today.
December 12, 200916 yr Author Hey guys another problem haha, I was wondering if I could take the exhaust manifold from the GL and use it for the Brat, with or without modifications?? Or is it just another no
December 13, 200916 yr You can muscle those early EA81 Y pipes to work. We used to do it but its not the best solution. Heat the pipe front of the Y push the Y outer ends toward each other takes a few minutes, its a hack job but its been done and keeps a car functioning.
