GL runs better after the check engine lights comes on

Featured Replies

So,

86 gl dr 5sp. Every time I start it it runs ruff until the check light comes on. Usually takes about 90 sec. Doesnt matter if it is warm or cold. Or if I let it sit for the 90 or try to drive it right away.(doesnt really like to go until light is on) It is the code 73 pulse something something in the distributer that tells the computer the engine is running. So any ways, runs GREAT when the light comes on.

Thanks

Mike

When the light comes on the car is probably disregarding the problem sensor and running in a failsafe mode which isn't actually as good as it should, but it's better than trying to use the faulty sensor.

Fix the fault and it will probably run better than when the light is on.

To fix the fault you need to download a manual and follow the diagnostic and test procedure to verify which component is faulty... That or pick up a second hand distributor and try.

Where can I download a manual to see if I can fix this. Otherwise Ill check around for a used dist.

Thanks

Mike
