I have someone offering me an EA71 with the side starter. Can I just swap the bell housing from the center starter on to the engine with the side starter?

 

Yes, as long as its an EA71 the bellhousings will swap, I just swapped a side started bellhousing onto a top starter motor a couple weeks ago. Good luck!

Yes, but with an EA71 you will still be limited to the 200m clutch setup as the EA81 flywheel will not bolt up. You could probably redrill an EA81 flywheel but for all the work it would just be easier to drop in an EA81 in the first place and get the added 10 HP.
