February 7, 200422 yr In the fresh snow beneath my car there seems to be intermittent antifreeze drips. They're light green and they appear to drip in 4 places along the exhaust??? What could be happening???Yikes.
February 7, 200422 yr Most likely you have one leak and it is running along the exhaust and dripping in multiple places.
February 7, 200422 yr Author I didn't mention that they are the whole length of the vehicle. Ending with the muffler. Is it possible the coolant is getting inside the exhaust system?
February 7, 200422 yr Possibly being sprayed or 'boiled' out when driving and blowing back under the car. Though it seem like it would also be on other components. Have you looked at your coolant level? How long since you had a new rad cap? Any overheating or other probelms lately? What mileage, history, mods, etc? I think your engine is prone to external headgasket leaks, exacerbated by cold weather.
February 7, 200422 yr Author The level is consistant. The temp never runs hot I watch it like a hawk. It does have a faint egg-fart smell when I get out of it. T
February 8, 200422 yr Originally posted by 1 Lucky Texan I think your engine is prone to external headgasket leaks, exacerbated by cold weather. Nope, that is the Phase II, he has a Phase I, prone to HG failures between the combustion chamber and cooling jacket. Has the level in the overflow tank ever risen unexpectedly?
February 8, 200422 yr I forget what year they change fro P1 - P2 - sorry. Also, does your heater occasionally blow cold? That seems to be a symptom in some soobs when air/combustion gases start getting trapped.
February 8, 200422 yr Author I've never noticed the heater blowing cold. I Don't reallylook at the coolant enough to know if it has risen "suddenly". I do look at it weekly though. I dont know maybe the very beginning of a head gasket leak? It has 79800 miles and never a hg replacement to my knowledge. Trev
February 8, 200422 yr Check all your components for leaks: coolant overflow tank Radiator Radiator hoses/connections Thermostat housing Heater hoses Freeze plugs maybe some more? Look at the front of your timing belt cover to see if there are any drips that would indicate a leaking water pump. Like the others posters said, leakage can blow along the underbody and drip off later. Hope it's not the head gaskets
February 8, 200422 yr Author Thank you everyone for your help; it is greatly appreciated. I will get under it soon and hunt down the leak. It's a little icy right now. How much coolant should the cooling enigine suck back in? It's only taking back like 2 inches out of the overflow. Could this be any indication of a lack of proper vacuum in the system? Trev
