ea82 86 gl 4x4 Idle speed question...

Recommended Posts

Hi-

Today I was doing some maintenance on the ride and I have been having problems with being able to go fast or accelerate or whatever so I decided to check the acceleration cable. It was pretty loose, and even with my pedal floored it was not opening up all the way. Well I tightened it up to have about 1/8'' give or whatever when floored, it fixed my initial problem. But now it idles really high. I was reading in my keep my subaru alive book and it says I can basically just mess with the idle speed screw on the carb to slow it down. is that the best thing to do, or should I just loosen up the cable a bit? And as far as checking the idle...when screwing with the screw...does the tach on my dash work fine for checking it. I guess it should be idling at about 930 rpm...correct? Any help is appreciated. Thanks a bunch. Hopefully I don't sound like too big of an idiot

If the high idle didn't start till you adjusted the cable you might have got it a little to tight, Also the linkage could be a little sticky from grease.

I have an issue with my webber getting dirty and linkages getting a little sticky from time to time.

I use a dry lithium greas as it doesn't attract dirt as much as a wet lubericant.

Allso might need to use a different throtle return spring or adjust your current one.

loosten your keeper nut on the cable and back it off slowly whith the car running and listen for an idle change.
