#1 On Heater Power Dial Won't Work

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is fixable, but when I turn my heater/defroster etc on, I have to go to at least the second setting before anything starts coming out. Setting's 2,3,4 work but not 1. The lights for the buttons come on when I switch it to #1, just no air comes out. I would like to have that spot working since all the rest are quite loud when just cruising.

Any ideas?

~Thanks!

There is a resistor coil that controls the lower fan settings.

The resistor is located under the passenger kick panel, to the left of the fan motor. There is a plastic tab on the lower panel that fits into a slot. The slot is on the resistor itself, it drops out with 2 screws.

If you remove it, you will likely find one of the coils are broken. You can solder in a resistor if you know what resistance is needed for each speed

Find one in a junkyard and replace the entire thing. Subaru used the same unit over many years and many models.

No sense in soldering in a resistor; the wire coil is a very high wattage and low resistance wire. You're not going to find a replacement resistor that will fit and work for you.

Anyone have a pic of where the resistors are or are covered by? I looked once and was stumped. Didn't look hard, was just replacing the glove box.

Cool! Thanks, I will take a look under there and see what I find!
