EA82T high idle 87 Turbowagon

MY 87 turbowagon likes to idle high. It idles at about 2500 when cold, like it should, but when it warms up, it idles about 1200-1500 RPM. Sometimes it will drop down to 800 or so, but only for a second or two and then right back up to 1200. If I sit in it and rev it it usually stops. I have a spare manifold to take part off of, but I haven't the foggiest idea what could be wrong, aside from a bad IAC, but I don;'t even know where the IAC is on this thing, or if it even has one...

Listen for a vaccum leak inside the passanger compartment or in the engine bay.

I have a horrable leak in the ventalation control and it makes my car idle really high. but boost is uneffected, because of the one way valve

I agree, vaccum related...check all your fittings and watch WOT boost levels

could also be your vac advance... My 87 t-wagon does the same thing, but only after I turned the RRFPR up to 45psi,

other possibilities in random order: cruse control somehow catching and altering vacume levels? dirty air filter(makes my car idle low), dirty TPS connector(always clean this doohicky)...

 

thats all I can think of off the top of my head, but high idle means quicker boost, so its not all bad

I discovered today that if the car is shut off, and then restarted a lil bit later, the idle is more reasonable, about 1100 to 1200 RPM, but it doesn't idle at 800 like it used to! Could it be the IUCD for the A/C is not kicking off? Or is the idle bumped up by the computer... Cuz I don't hear teh idle kick up when the AC kicks in like it used to either...

Currently having the exact same problem on my '87 Turbo wagon.I will be changing every hose I can this spring.

 

Being that when it's warmed up and restarted it acts fine sets a path of thought.Gotta Z right now.Somebody think while I go dream.

the iac or aav valve above the thermostat housing introduces air, a "false" vac leak to increase idle. it is open cold, and closes warm. perhaps it is not closing?

pinch off the hose between it and the throttle body and see if that changes anything
