Will this non-EGR ECU get rid of my check engine light?

Featured Replies

ldew is sending me a 1996 non-EGR impreza automatic EJ22 ECU. Go man, thanks!!

I have a 96 Legacy swapped from EGR EJ25 to a non EGR engine with an intake from a non-EGR 97 Impreza Automatic. Runs fine but I have check engine lights because of the EGR to non-EGR swap.

So - who thinks this is going to work just by swapping ECU's? I'm wondering if there's any differences to consider?

The intake and ECU are both from non-EGR automatics - so seems the only possible difference could be the main body harness right?

I think it will work ok by doing that. I also think you could add a resistor to the exsisting ECU circuit and fool the ECU into thinking that the circuit is ok.

I don't think a fakeout resistor will work. It will fool the ECU into thinking that there is an EGR solenoid present (good) but the ECU also verifies actual EGR flow by monitoring changes in the MAP and(?) O2 sensors when the valve is opened. (i.e. the computer needs a way to know if the EGR valve is plugged with carbon, if the backpressure sensor has failed, etc etc.)
