02 Outback drivetrain noise

Featured Replies

My friend has an 02 outback limited,2.5 5-speed.He described what sounded like torque bind and I told him to put the FWD fuse in.He did and it didn't make any difference.A few days later he said it started making a clicking noise.I went over and drove it.It sounds like a baseball card in bicycle spokes. It's much more prevalent when coasting, not accelerating.I don't know where to start.Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a low mileage car and he has had nothing but bad luck with it.The fluid is full and looks clean.

Lets back up a bit. how many miles, and is it an auto (i never assume).

Does it sound louder on turns? I would inspect the front CV joints first and look for torn boots.
