I just purchased a 02 forester which has the auto dimming rear mirror. The car had been a Florida car and the PO had the windows tinted. I have yet to see a difference at night when a car is behind. How big should the change in the mirror be? Is the tint on the windows preventing it from changing and how can one test to see if the mirror is functioning. (it is turned on)

The best test is when my car is in the garage and I open the garage door on a bright day. The combination of the dark garage in front and sunlit driveway behind makes the mirror dim qhuite a bit. Maybe the sensore on the front is bad or blocked by a 'visor' strip or something?
