Car is an 88gl 5sp d/r

It has developed a wild problem. It idles pretty good but if you give it throttle over 2500 it sounds like a diesel with the jake brake on. I have

checked timing belts (deadon)

put in a known good coil and igniter.

put in a known good distributor

used but good fuel pump. old one had 5lbs of pressure.

car is a spfi. Some good points I haven't tried yet.

fuel filter

plugs and wires.

also tried another computer.

no codes showing.

Sure could use this car.

hi, what type fuel system, does it have those chunky square valve things on the EGR system, mounted near the rear of the heads ? they go bad , leak exhaust gasses internally and cause similar problems, the exhaust gasses can go where they should not.

I am Almost sure that your Subie's Problems are Related to a Vacuum Leak, the Idea given by Ruparts to see at the EGR is a Good Starting Point to Check; also other Places can be involved, like the intake Manyfold's Seals at the Heads in example...

Good Luck, Kind Regards.
