April 26, 201015 yr So my 92 loyale 4wd!! ahha I did the wheel bearings myself! with a little ingenuity I created a press to do the front bearings!! sorry GD, It was so bad I coulnd risk driving it, but now!!! all is well!
April 26, 201015 yr Yeah - no problem. They are easy to do. I made a driver tool by cutting an old front wheel bearing in half and then re-welding it - that took about 1/16" out of the diameter and made it slip right down in while only touching the outer bearing race. I welded a short 2" pipe nipple and threaded a cap on to use my dead blown to drive them home. Works great and much easier than using a drift - which can potentially harm the seals if you use 2RS sealed bearings. GD
April 26, 201015 yr Author My grandfather has a steel work bench, and being that he worked for GE on turbines has many years dealing with bearings, hell he even had a puller! so I welded a huge old socket onto a 20 ton bottle jack and a flange in the middle of the socket(to not damage the bearings), took some kind of round rubber seal I found in his shop super glued it the the socket and viola!! it worked great!!!, I cut a hole in the bench....yada yada yada it will take me all day for the rest, needless to say it worked.
