Fuel in Oil?

Featured Replies

Here's another problem I noticed with my MPFI 86' GL-10 Turbo after an engine swap. I checked the oil level and it definitely smelled like gas in there. Could my fuel mixture be too rich? I'm getting pretty good mpg and the engine runs GREAT. What's the best way to adjust the mixture? Is it best to take it to a shop?

I also read it could be related to a faulty fuel pump. There's been some crud in my fuel at times, so I've been giving the car gas every time I start it up. Had to drain out the fuel pump once 'cause it was clogged, but seems to be working now. I know it's not best but I'm trying to avoid uncovering problems until my next paycheck!

Thanks!

Sounds like one or more of the injectors are leaking. Problem is present when the engine is shut off.

Would I be able to see it leaking if a took them all off with the engine off? Is it possible one is only leaking while the engine is on? I guess the big question is: should this be addressed immediately? Will fuel in the oil cause major damage?

Thanks!

If the injectors are leaking they will leak when the engine is running and when it is not because the system is under pressure. Will stop leaking when the pressure in the lines drops down to zero. Pulling the injectors isn't an easy undertaking. Easier way to tell if the injectors are leaking would be to plumb in a pressure gauge. Start the engine and then shut it off and let it sit overnight. If the pressure is way down or zero then you know for sure what the problem is. Someone on the board just recently offered for sale a set of reconditioned injectors. Fuel in the cylinders will wash the oil from the cylinder which really increases bore wear and doesn't do the bearings any good.

Thanks! Yeah, I had to take them off a couple times during the engine swap so I'm not looking forward to it. I'll try the pressure gauge, thanks!
