September 9, 201015 yr 89 xt gl fulltime 4wd 4eat trans Seems to be dragging at highway speeds also sounds like the USS Enterprise flying when you are moving I don't have a terrible case of torque bind but there is definatly some and it seems to shake kinda bad around 55mph engine is still running good tires are the same size brand age so I don't really know what could be causing this besides the trans or driveline related mpg have dropped off too. So any suggestions would be appretiated at work right now so those are all the details I can think off my head -Ryan
September 9, 201015 yr Hey , try putting a fuse in the fuse holder under the hood on the driver's side strut tower. It should lock it into front wheel drive - drive around and see if it eliminates the problem. Process of elimination. How are the cv joints and universals?
September 9, 201015 yr Author ill try throwing in a fuse tonight but as far as cv axles go I know I have one throwing some grease but seems ok no clicking or anything
September 12, 201015 yr Author So I threw a fuse in the fwd thing and it seems worse when costing down a hill you can hear the engine acting like something is dragging then letting loose and continues till you get on the gas again of course there is zero torque bind now so I know that problem is with the clutches in the transfer case also when you are at like half throttle it jumps between gears fluid in the trans looks like its new and full. I'm really at a loss on this one I've never had luck with auto trans.
September 13, 201015 yr Adjust the 2-3 band. The method is in the Haynes manual. I have run into this on both of the older 4eat's I have had.
September 14, 201015 yr Author thank you silverhelme for the adjustment idea, cleared everything up and a trip to WJM brought upon an interesting trade:grin:
September 15, 201015 yr Not to forget the TRB on your transmission. Your parts are here, come and get them.
