September 29, 201015 yr I'm going to put a 5 speed STI box in my 1995 250t wagon (2nd gen), which currently has an automatic transmisison. I tow my suzuki Samurai with this car so I wanted a strong box with low gearing. I've done quite a lot of searching on the matter, and am finding conflicting information on a couple of points: -Will I need the transmission crossmember from the manual car? -Will I need the halfshafts/drive axles from the manual car? The list I currently have is: Gearbox Rear diff Driveshaft Pedal Box Centre console Clutch etc. Clutch Slave etc. Flywheel Anything else missing? Cheers.
September 30, 201015 yr when converting a legacy of that vintage, in the US anyway, you have to swap the cruise control modules as they are auto/manual specific. slave cylinder and hose failure is frequent enough on hydraulic clutches i'd install new ones. not familiar with STI or your version but i've always seen manuals/auto crossmembers being different. in general Subaru axles interchange between auto's and manuals, they're the same. i've used 2002 WRX front axles in other subaru's before...though they weren't STi so maybe that means nothing. some newer rear diffs have inner style axle attachments instead of the stubs. not sure, but i'd like to know when that change happened.
October 5, 201015 yr Author Cheers -- sounds good. Another question: Do I need the starter motor from the manual car? OR will the auto one still fit?
October 6, 201015 yr good call, starter. you only need the front half of the rear driveshaft as the rears are the same. that comes in handy if the ujoints on the rear half are better on your original, you can just keep it.
