87 RX Vs 89 RX

Recommended Posts

Trying to get my 87 RX going before the snow gets here:grin:...someone local has a totalled 89 RX that has been sitting in their garage for a few years. The odometer says 72,xxx miles,so I guess its a safe bet to try stick with the EA82T as I await an EJ swap after the winter.Question...is the engine a direct fit or did SUBARU make any changes that would affect/hinder that switch? And what to change or service in an engine that has been sitting for close to 4 years...if a direct fit? Thanks.

Yeah, you'll need to stick to the 87 wiring harness, intake, and distributor.

There are a few differences in connectors.

And there is a difference in the pin arrangement on the disty for 87 vs. later years. The Reference and pulse wires are reversed, so if you need to use a different disty for any reason, you have to swap the pins in the connector for the disty.

None of that matters if you just swap your disty and intake onto the new engine.
