EA 82T Pistons question

Featured Replies

Hi to all. I was wondering if anyone knows whether the EA82T piston is a separate casting or is it simply an EA82 piston with a dish machined into the crown. The reason I ask is because I have an EA71 engine fitted with EA63 GSR heads. Even after relieving the heads a bit the compression is still too high. I was hoping to machine a dish in the pistons to lower the comp ratio but am unsure if the crown thickness is sufficient to handle it safely. I know I can use 82T Pistons but was hoping to avoid the expense (assuming I can get them at all in Australia) :-\

Thanks

Well to answer the first question, The EA82T pistons are a entirely different casting. Thick face.

The EA82 NA pistons are very thin on the face, and I think machining them down would not be that good and Idea (I was looking into it for a while to build a 8.5:1 EA82)

However, if you can paypal a few bucks for shipping, I have a set of EA82T pistons and rods sitting in a box. 100% Cleaned and ready to ship. Probably 20-30$ shipping would cover it. PM me if interested.

Hey mate, I was wondering about the ea82t pistons you had, if 'how pow' isn't interested in them, could I please have a photo of the under side of them? thanks.

I have photos of coated EA82 NA and Turbo pistons here:

No photos of the NA bottoms, but they are a thinner crown. Note that the bottom of the EA82T piston crown is all the way down to the oil return slot in the oil control ring (and even at the piston center it is nearly that deep).

yeah, I actually wanted the photo of the spare pistons that gloyale has, as there are two different OEM versions of the ea82Turbo pistons
