My 86 subi is running great. For a while as I drive, the stereo would just shut off then come on. I thought it was bad I was going to take it back to best buy. Driving it at night I saw that the head lights were dim, my temp gauge was in the red, stereo was off and the volt meeter wa undr 8. When I pushed the clutch in to pull over every thing came to life. so I let off the clutch. dim. If i just rest my food on the clutch all works well. I looked at the cable and petal no wires are in the way. any ideas on the problem?

Dying Alt. With everything on take a voltage reading at 1800 rpm. If it is below 13.5 volts the alt is going.

 

Another posibility is bad engine ground cables.

It was an easy fix. I needed a ground to the body I only had a ground to the engine.
