November 16, 201015 yr This is the system with the Y-Pipe in the front which comes into a catalytic converter and then attaches to a midpipe that has a second converter or resonater (sp.). Can anyone tell me if both units are catalytic converters? I'm scrapping the car, but have a guy I've sold converters to before for recyling. I just want to know if both are converters and would have precious metals (so he'd be interested in buying). Thanks in advance. This board has been a god send in keeping my favorite cars running!
November 16, 201015 yr Can anyone tell me if both units are catalytic converters? the cats, 2 of them?, are just after the y-pipe before the mid-pipe. the rest is just scrap iron or used parts. how much are the cars worth?? Edited November 16, 201015 yr by johnceggleston
November 16, 201015 yr Author Thanks John. Actually doesn't the first Cat effectively form the base of the "Y"? I'll be anxious to see what they are worth scrap. Any ideas from anyone out there? Thanks again!
November 16, 201015 yr Thanks John. Actually doesn't the first Cat effectively form the base of the "Y"? I'll be anxious to see what they are worth scrap. Any ideas from anyone out there? Thanks again! i'm guessing high compared to scrap, they don't weigh much but not 100s like every one thinks.
November 16, 201015 yr the early Legacy's only have one cat converter @ the Y junction, the second item is a resonator and has no value other than basic scrap. simple way to tell - look for an O2 sensor/wires - if it has a sensor it is a cat, if not, it isnt.
November 16, 201015 yr make sure to take off the head shields, because there are markings on the cat housing that designate the grade of metal in them. I have gotten anywhere from $3.00 to $100.oo on junk cats. German autos have the most valuable. i would say a soob cat is worth between $25 and $50
November 18, 201015 yr Author I thought the 1st was a CAT and the 2nd a resonator. So, I think you guys have me in the right track. The one at the Y does have an O2 sensor and I think it is graded as a small foreign. Likely about $70-$80, but we'll see! Thanks again!
