98 legacy outback dohc. this is the answer I got from exedy. I really don't want to spend 200 on a new subaru flywheel. any other brand recommendations?

 

Matthew, Thank you for your interest in Exedy products. Unfortunately we do not offer a flywheel for your application. The FWSBL01 is for the 2.2L non-turbo.

Why do you want a new flywheel anyway??

How many miles are on the one you have?

Why do you think you need a new one?

 

The only reason to replace is because of damage (cracked or the drive teeth are chewed up), or because it is too thin to resurface.

 

Resurfacing is generally pretty cheap $30-50. There is a minimum thickness, which the machinist will check before resurfacing. If they say it's too thin to resurface, then you buy a new one.

Just get another used one that can be turned - if yours can't...all the 2.5 Outbacks/GTs/Foresters/Impreza RS w/the PUSH-style hydraulic clutch should work...make sure they use a real FW lathe to resurface it.

 

You can also use an '06-07 WRX FW, but you'll need the matching PP and disk...running that on my '98 Forester in the stock 5-speed.

my current one has close to 200k and has been resurfaced twice. I was told that you don't want to resurface them more than a max of two times. I'm going to look into a used one but was hoping someone had an aftermarket brand in mind that I could purchase new if I don't have luck getting a used one to resurface in a reasonable amount of time. also, buying a used one and then paying to resurface sounds like it could be more than going new. I was planning on purchasing a new clutch kit and flywheel this week.
