SVX speedo quit

Featured Replies

After SVX sitting at hotel in WI overnight, temp was 20.

started off, and about 2 minutes, in the speedo quit.

Well, I read the codes from tcu and got 33 vehicle speed sensor 2.

(went thru this ordeal on my old 94 turbo wagon when the speedo drive gear and speedo driven gear toasted up due to age)

Today pulled out the sensor (its electric on SVX vs cable on the Legacy)

The sensor was seized, could not turn with screwdriver tip. Next, pull this out f the top

thats the speedo shaft, notice the bottomw twisted portion, yeah it twisted the mfer off. Guess what, gotta open the side bearing to replace that part.

So i have on order from Subaru, new speedo shaft, new speedo drive gear, new speedo driven gear, and new oil seal for the cap.

Also, getting a used speedo sensor from a SVXnet'r member

I have offers on the car pending this fix. Will be 2 weeks til i get the new parts in. grr, not happy.

what a STUPIC design subaru on the speedo setup both this and the legacy i have gotten burned.

Guess, they dont design some stuff for 20 degree temps.

I've been there. Right after I did the five speed swap in my SVX the speed sensor went bad. It was real crappy. I was in the process of selling mine as well and it made people doubt the 54k the car actually had. Luckily I had like 3 impreza parts cars so I was able to swap mine out with one of those. Hope you get it fixed up soon!
