December 24, 201015 yr brought my old white wheeler back to life a few years ago it stated out as a stock 87 ea82 wagon, it now has a 5" lift up front and a not sure 6+ lift in rear , last weekend took it ouf for the first time in over a year to Walker Valley , in the last few weeks I dropped in a rebuilt 91 EJ 2.2 with Delta Low tork Cams , with a Ford Escort Disty and a Weber Carb, this machine has no computers or sensors anyway heres some pics Also I installed a Nissan 720 4x4 pickup front Diff , axles and Hubs,in the rear, the diff bolts right in with no mods to car mounts or driveline, I had to cut off the bearing end of the stock soobbie swingarm and weld up mounts for the truck knuckle , so now I have 4.38s in the rear, so Im running 30" tires ( wore 31 x 10.50s) on the front and 33" tires on the rear , also the diffs welded up so now I have a stronger rear axle set up and unlocking rear hubs for onroad use I really like the feel and nimbleness of the Subaru car, I just got tired of having the stock rear axles and hollow stub shafts break, I also like the mid car ground clearence with no extra tranfercase or tranny, this combination is Awesome, good power even with the stock wimpy gears from a stock EA82 3.9 Dualrange , the EJ with the Delta cams is the ticket, this car has come a long way since I first built it, way more power, less weight and now for the first time a strong rear axle and 33s are nice Future plans: fenders made out of small tubing and sheet metal, rollbar. side sliders replace all 4 doors with straight ones, add rectangular tubing on doors to act as tree sliders 5000 ATV winch long range fiberglass kit of nose and tail Edited December 24, 201015 yr by Scott in Bellingham detail
December 24, 201015 yr Very cool, I like the setup for unlocking the rear. How do those brakes compare? Obviously that thing gets towed/hauled to the trails but has it seen any on-road braking circumstances? Also how is the rear alignment? I know these questions are seemingly not important for a trail only rig. I like your innovations and just lookin for more info. Thanks, Spencer

December 24, 201015 yr Author time for a change, since I chopped off the back I havent liked any of the configurations I have, I didnt like the spare tire on the back as I couldnt see out the back to back up, I didnt like the hatch bolted on without being able to open it a sthen I had to reach threw the side door to get the gear and I didnt care for the back being like a pickup caus all my stuff got rained on , so in the shop I go , will end up having a workable hatch,no stock lights at the rear corners and some better protection and clearence at the rear here it is stock first mod I really like this look pickup style the mod
December 25, 201015 yr Im really diggin the shortened look, i bet its a little easier to maneuver through the woods too. might have to do this my my 96' legacy. either that or pickup style, but i havent seen any good pickup style pictures.
December 25, 201015 yr Even though i only saw this thing for a little while, it is rad! It went anywhere with ease.
