And thus, you now know what to use to pull engine codes. 5 single flashes is an identity code, wether cali or 48 state, mt or auto, etc..

yeah i figured that as much .. an identity code ?

ive never heard of that before .. .. should it be off or its gonna to be blinking 5 single flashes forever ?

5 single flashes is a good thing. It means you don't have your CEL on. If your CEL ever does come on, that light will flash the codes.

It should only be flashing when the ignition is on.

correct me if im wrong here but that light shouldnt even be on while driving. you probably have one of the diagnostic connectors under hood connected that shouldnt be.

I have the diag connectors unplugged, and mine always flashes the 7 or 8 fault codes I have in my car. My CEL is always on and covered with tape.... But if the ignition is on that LED flashes like a madman.

Maybe this isn't normal operation, but it's how mine works. My car has had a lot of different people doing a lot of different stuff, so it could act abnormally. Just saying what happens on my car.

It will blink when all is well just like he described.

i spoke too soon thought it was trouble free..

i was cleaning the console and apparently somebody yanked the cel light out

so i went to the junk yard and put it in and thought everything is a ok

until the cel light came on i was like aw crap..

i got 3 long pluse then 4 short

would that mean my egr selenoid is bad ? according to the trouble shooting code on here?

and is that the stupid thing on the passenger side in the back of the engine

near the valve cover thing ? or is it somewhere else ?

I have the EGR code, and a few for evap stuff. But mine runs just fine and as much power as it's supposed to have so I just ignore it and tape over the light... Maybe not the best solution but if it runs well... whatever.

what i did was i bypassed all of that selenoid hoses just hooked everything else up and the egr valve is directly hooked to the vac hoses no more selenoid will have to get some resistors from radio shack and splice into the wiring and it should go away and i took out the light blub out til i fix it
