January 18, 201115 yr hey everyone I have just installed a 1997 2.2 Ltr Liberty in my 1994 Impreza and are now having problem. Will the new ECU fit in the old harness although there is a plug on the new engine that the harness has no plug for. will this new engine run without the cam angle sensor and the knock sensor and there are other wires im not where they go. i thought this would be a straight swap. any ideas and tips. i also heard there could be a universal harnes to go between them to make it run, is this true or more rumours
January 18, 201115 yr did you swap the intake manifold over too? use the original intake manifold (along with all the wiring/sensors) that came with the car, then you have no issues. the 94 intake will bolt right onto the 97 EJ22....then you've got the original wiring. the ECU only needs whatever it used to have to run. our vehicles are different here so it's hard to be more specific.
January 19, 201115 yr Author So the old ecu will run the engine just fine if I swap the intake manifold and sensors over?
January 19, 201115 yr You need compete sets. Intake, harness and ECM must match. Or just get a stand alone engine management.
January 20, 201115 yr Author So if I get the harness ECM and intake manifold off the 1.8 engine it will run the 2.2 in my car?
January 25, 201115 yr So if I get the harness ECM and intake manifold off the 1.8 engine it will run the 2.2 in my car? Yes... Unless your EJ18 is Carbureted. do you Have Pictures to Post?
